Alternate History 2018
What if at the end of 2017... Dan still leaves Mississippi State for Florida but.... Instead of Joe Moorhead , Mississippi Hires Mike Leach, who also brings along Transfer QB Gardner Minshew
how does that season look with Leach and Minshew and that 2018 Defense...

Mississippi State**** sorry for the heresy by accident

Prolly not much better. We sure as hell didn’t have the receivers to run the offense that year…
-
I honestly don't know. we still didnt have the linemen for the job, two years in and we still really dont have the linemen, but Minshew running all over the place could have really helped out. I bite and say that we would have finished 10-2 that year. lose to bama and pick any random game we lose and say "what the heck Leach"

It would have been a train wreck. Minshew worked well at WSU because they were a well-established Leach program. We would have seen all the same issues we had last year but with Minshew instead of KJ Costello leading the way. Minshew would not have been drafted after 2018 had he come here. And the WR situation in 2018 would have severely hampered everything - they were terrible.
Meanwhile, Aeris and Fitz would have been wrecking shit at UF in 2018 after they followed Dan and gotten that OL to run behind. Dan went 10-2 regular season that year with a sub-par RB in Perine and lesser QB in Franks. Put Aeris and Fitz on that team and they win a Natty.
"After dealing with Ole Miss for over a year," he said, "I've learned to expect their leadership to do and say things that the leadership at other Division I schools would never consider doing and to justify their actions by reminding themselves that "We're Ole Miss.""

Same thing would have happened. Sputtering offense. Elite level defense.
However, if we had gotten Billy Napier running an offense similar to Dan's it would have propelled him into the coaching stratosphere, a 10-2 season followed by a 9-3 season.

Wuz Leach lookin" at dat time?
At the end of the day, nobody will ever know what the 17 woulda happened
-
We would have been 10-3 that year if players execute.
Florida game.... Fitz puts a long pass on the money. Would have been a TD. Dropped. Willie Gay dropped a pick 6.
Bowl game.... another TD pass turns into a drop and interception. The secondary blew an assignment and gifts them a TD. Willie Gay makes a huge tackle for a loss to stop a drive but decides to throat slash. Iowa ends that drive with a score instead of a punt.
Anyways .... ancient history.

Let’s take this back further. What if when we fired croon we went after leach, that was the same time that leach was having his issue with TT alternate history, let’s say we didn’t care about the allegations we knew if was bill crap and went after him instead of Mullen. What would have happened, his offense was still “new” at that time.

This is a valid point. Leach says his system takes repetition and time to perfect. When he says this, many people disagree and bring up Minshew and how he stepped right in and threw for a ton of yards. But the other 10 offensive players on the field already knew the system, making the transition much easier for Minshew. When Leach came to MSU, all 11 had to learn it.

I remember that long TD pass to Osirus Mitchell as clear as day. Such an easy TD catch and he just dropped it. The defender was several steps behind. Fitz threw a perfect ball.

Just OK. Minshew was greatly assisted by having guys on the offense that knew what they were doing & had been around. In 2018, he would not have had that at MSU. Everyone would've been new to the system

Looking back to Mullen leaving, if we had hired a semi competent coach in 2018 we go 10-2 to the Sugar bowl and then 9-3 in 2019 as you stated with a lot of talent on the team still. Then that coach probably would?ve left and we still could?ve got leach for 2020. It?s a shame Cohen and company botched that hire so bad because if he hadn?t this is probably the situation that would have arose

I wanted leach when we hired croom
