Saw where Megan West, WAPT TV news anchor
Along with her husband and two young children where held up and robbed on Halloween in the Belhaven district. Can't imagine but yes I can, imagine watching your kids trick or treat and kids getting in car when thugs approach them, demand their wallets and vehicle. Megan and family ran to the neighbors house un-harmed but I'm sure shook up over been robbed!
I've seen her in Starkville and thinking she is a Msu fan or graduate.
Stay classy Jackson, I never go in the city anymore and hope I never will!

Maybe we should ask the 5 why's this is the case. My bet is it will have something to do from say four - five hundred years ago related to political, economic and social behavior of an attempt to oppress, and now this is the result. Guess you think you had something to do with when, who and where you were born, but news flash, you don't.
Doesn't excuse bad behavior, but sure is interested that "educated" people has the aforementioned general opinion, and education is one important thing many tried to deny.

Well the oppression is the other direction now. If Jackson was a football team and needed a quarterback and had their choice of Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Trevor Lawrence, or a black guy that had never played the position, they would choose the black guy because of his skin color. They don’t care about qualifications. Then when their football team lost, they would blame it on the white folks. They do it every day. Look at the water system, schools, crime. Hire incompetence over best qualified, then blame the white folks.

Get over yourself, I grew up poor and I received an education (all from public institutions) - thanks to my parents pushing me. Being poor is NOT an excuse. It is the disintegration of the family that is the problem and a lack of Godly principles being taught to our children. Just imagine if we all adhered to the 10 commandments! WOW, what a concept!

Exactly!!!!!!!! Actually, someone being extremely poor has more opportunity than lower middle class PELL grants etc

Her husband had some choice words for the mayor on FB too. Good for him.
I think the only hope is of the national guard steps in and floods the streets.

There's really not much excuse to be in Jackson, especially at night. There hasn't been for a long time now. It may not be right, but I feel like you have to be pretty naive to think its a safe place to be with your family.

Read the comments on Jackson Jambalaya. At this point anyone putting their family in danger by living in Jackson is willfully ignorant. I love Jackson and am a former resident and hope it turns around, but my family's safety is my first priority x 1000.
-
A couple of years ago, Jackson had a crime index score of 3 on a scale of 1-100. It basically meant Jackson was only safer than 3% of the other metropolitan areas nationally.
Earlier this year the residents of Minneapolis were up in arms because they had recorded their 60 something homicide. They were renaming it Murderapolis. At the same time we were in the 90s on homicides.
The biggest thing Jackson has to overcome is apathy. Lumumba was reelected in June with only 18,000 votes in a city of 180,000 people. I think there were only about 30,000 voters cast total. If it doesn't change, the state will need to come in and just take over.

It's well past time to implement the "self cleaning oven" theory....

The citizens want and desire crime, poor schools, and bad infrastructure. Because that’s what they elect. If you want to pass the ball a lot, hire Mike Leach. If you want crime, no water, and bad infrastructure, keep electing these idiots who are crooked, lazy, and worthless. They are electing Marshand Crisler today for Sheriff. He’s a moron.

Because he?s the mayor?s boy! And the corruption in Hinds County/City of Jackson is unbelievable! I live in Hinds county not in city of Jackson.
