'STATE' is infinitely better on both basketball and football uniforms than the banner logo. That one is straight garbage on athletic uniforms, and it doesn't help for branding since nobody can read it anyway. Also, on a football uniform, if you need them to zoom in on the chest logo to identify the team, you don't know enough to matter anyway.

State fans that hate the current logos can twist their arguement any way they want to fit the narrative. This topic has been discussed over and over and over. It's just interesting so many fans of a school, hate said schools logo.

Many schools use a power (insert initial) logo on a helmet. Wisconsin, Tennessee, Washington etc. The power M incorporates (Mississippi) the banner STATE incorporates our nickname, State.

You can't make out the current logo on the maroon helmet because the logo is to small and the same color as the helmet.

As for the helmet, State should design a helmet similar to Wisconsin and Tennessee. White helmet, big power maroon MState and maroon center stripe and maroon facemask. The logo would pop and a white helmet would differentiate from Texas A&M.

I always like the MSU interlocking for football from back in the 80s-90s. Didn't like the Mstate at first but it has grown on me.

My reply was to your comment that the Banner MState "sets it apart". Was just curious how so, since we took the idea from another school.

You're right. The only helmet that looks good with the current logo is the white helmet (not a fan vs. maroon, unless we're in the stormtrooper look) b/c it helps the logo stand out. If we added a silver border to the edges, it would look even better.

And you would be wrong. M over S on the helmet looks like Olive Branch High School or something.
I would be willing to bet, if you showed the M over S to random SEC college football fans in every college town in the SEC, they wouldn't know who the hell that was.
Could it become a strong branding for our entire athletic department, yes it could. But it is not currently.

This conversation is about the graphics on the chest of our football uniforms. "STATE" is the absolute best option for us as a university in the SEC.

Agree, several high schools use the M over S (or S over M) logo.
Wish we could add "Hail State" to just signify MSU instead of simply "State" since several schools this year are jumping out with "STATE" on their uni's.

Yes do this immediately. Through the SEC we are ?State,? and should brand ourselves that way

We need a version of Maryland's two sided helmet to end this conversation. The uglier the better.
Maybe the three stripes like our flag on one side of the helmet with the state seal, the other side white with only the M/S logo. with pin stripes behind it. About is ugly as I can think.

But you're from Mississippi. You're looking very myopic here. Nationally, MSU is not known as state or even close to being known as State. M over S is our brand that people coast to coast know

Why can we not just go back to the 90's and put Miss. State on our chest? It was good enough to take us to the championship game, why are we to good for it now?

I don't know of any other national, big time State schools that brand themselves simply as "State." NC State no, LSU No, FSU no, Penn State no, Arizona State no, Oklahoma State no, I'm really not sure about Michigan State, but we are so far removed from them, I don't think it would matter (plus they jumped on MSU before us). Around the southeast, I think we are commonly referred to as "State," I know on Jox in B'ham, we are usually referred to as "State." Mississippi State is too long and doesn't flow. Just no to MS State, M State or Miss. State.

Everyone calls us state. I have friends and family all over the US and abroad many who have never set foot in Mississippi. When college football comes up they almost all say ?how?s State doing this year?. We are known as State.

My experience is that people from other parts of the country do indeed refer to us as "State."

But even if they didn't already do it, if we intentionally branded that then they would learn to. It's kind of the whole point of marketing and branding. We could certainly grab that space since nobody is really dominating it as a national brand.

Last I checked, Mich State colors are green & white while NC State colors are red and white. Neither wiould be caught dead in maroon!

    Only Mississippi State wears maroon!

I hated the original MState, but I do like the updated one. I also like STATE on the front of the jersey. But then again I also don't mind the gold accents for the egg bowl or white helmets... I did loathe the Don Smith uni's from the 80's though. All those 17'n stripes everywhere.
