Garrett Shrader

Shrader doesn't sound too happy about possibly splitting time at QB for Syracuse. Makes you wonder if he would have bought in to being WR how good he could have been at State under Leach, not sure he has a future at QB if he wants to go to the next level

Maybe. Boy we had the QB pipeline going. Keyton was the next great MSU QB and maybe Garrett could have been after him. We nuked that plan so we rollin the dice on Joe and Leach.

We didn't nuke any plan, Mullen left us.
And you reference one guy that never was a starting QB after leaving here and another that couldn't win the job outright against a below average QB returning for a putrid team. Yeah, quite the pipeline.
Maybe Mullen could have turned Keyton into a serviceable SEC QB because Mullen is a great coach, but without Mullen he's not a P5 QB. And Shrader needed/needs to grow up and wasn't going to work out here being tied to the anchor that was SloMo.

Yeah, but I?d much rather roll the dice with a coach that has experience turning 2 P5 cellar dwellers into contenders than Mullen or Moorhead. Consider this: we actually have QBs on our roster that other people wanted. We literally just took USM?s senior QB off their team without promising him the starting job. Leach has a reputation that proceeds him in the eyes of QBs and WRs.
Last thing. I don?t think we realize how bad our WR corps have been for the last forever. We are actually beginning to get legit P5 WRs and we will see the difference on game days.

Keytaon isn?t even the backup QB at Virginia and plays a combination RB/wR position?. Shrader would be effective in the right offense, but not what we run.

Shrader
Also had one of the greatest effort plays of all time and I will remember him forever for that.
Someone please post it.

You do know GS signed under Slowmo and not Mullen

He's not going to the next level regardless of what position he plays.

Shrader would have been deadly in Mullen's MSU offense. Keytaon would have been good after coaching. Shrader is a player though.

Schrader was a hell of a player. Wouldn?t cut it in this offense though.

Schrader in ******* offense would have been absolutely deadly. He very well could have broken every SEC rushing record...

That wasn't really the point of the thread, he obviously isn't on anyone's NFL radar. But to give himself any shot at pro ball, it wouldn't be at the QB position

General athleticism alone doesn't necessarily give him the specific tools needed to play wide receiver or any other position at a high level any more than it does QB. If Shrader had the slightest chance of playing a skill position at the next level, I'm pretty confident he would have cracked the 8-man rotation at receiver last year given the competition. Other than that, you could speculate that maybe he could play safety with his measurables, but there's no data to suggest he has any potential there.

I never once said general athleticism gave him or any player the tools to play other positions or make the NFL, but in his case, the QB position doesn't seem to really suit him well.. but the kid plays hard, is athletic and does have heart which could give him a shot playing elsewhere on the field

No kinda like Julian Edelman, Matt Jones, Nick Marshall, Antwan Randle El, Terrell Pryor, Denard Robinson and many more who switched positions......Im not saying he would make it at another position at that level but it's not that far fetched
