Losing Danberry looming huge thus far. basketball program (forced turnovers per game)

Team forced 20.3 turnovers per game last season (ranked fairly near the top nationally). This season...14.4 forced turnovers per game.

    Huge key
Level of pressure defense (including fullcourt, 3 quarters, half, traps, switching, ect.), forced turnovers, and points off of those turnovers has fallen off a good bit from last season (nationally ranked in forced turnovers and turnovers per game). Current team and personel being heavily exposed without keeping up the level of defensive pressure from the past. Big keys...lost Jordan Danberry and change of defensive approach by the new staff. Also, less dribble drive offensively from the guards.

    Few Notes
    - Last season (2019-20)...team forced 20.3 turnovers per game.
    - This season (2020-21...team forcing 14.4 turnovers per game.
    - Lost Jordan Danberry (team's leader and best defensive player, best pressure defender, ultra quck...one of the very top defensive guards in NCAA last season, and season before)
    - Lost Coach Schaefer and basically staff
    - Also lost the Splash sisters..Chloe Bibby, Andra Espinoza-Hunter (team's 2 best shooters), and Jayla Hemingway

A big key to what has been going on this season with the women's basketball program is directly associated with a combination of losing Jordan Danberry, Chloe Bibby, and Coach Schaefer..including his staff. Then bringing in Coach McCray-Penson along with basically a different staff, different system....much more went away from the level of extended ball pressure defense utilized by Coach Schaefer and his staff. Also, lost Johnnie Harris..especially working with the post players, low post offense, ect.

    Press Conference last night
Coach McCray-Penson has mentioned that she doesn't have the personel to pressure as much as she would like.. Mentioned again in post game press conference last night about not having the guards to pressure much more than they are. Also, mentioned not being a good passing team.

With or without Coach Schaefer and his staff....having Jordan Danberry availble is a huge difference maker. Remember that she was gramted an extra season of eligibility by the NCAA.. She and Bibby helped mask a lot of what you're seeing. Also, Coach Schaefer and his staff did a very good job of coaching, maximizing.
