    Women Basketball Lineup/Rotation

My opinion, with the personel presently available for this season, the women's basketball team would be well served going with an all out pressing, trapping type defense, especially having the smaller, very quick guards. This, similar to the way Coach Schaefer utilized players over the past few season. Most of the returning players and Madison Hayes were recruited with this style of play in mind. Guards like Myah Taylor, Aliyah Matharu, JaMya Mingo-Young, Madison Hayes, Knisha Godfrey, Catterion Thompson....can press (including full court, various traps, ect) 40 minutes with this group. Also, wings Rickea Jackson and Xaria Wiggins providing more length on the perimeter, better helping the cause. Also, at this point, team needs Aliyah Matharu....taking most of the shots out of the guards. This, whether she starts or not. Madison Hayes is currently the team's 2nd best rebounder...regardless of stats. Jessika Carter #1. Need Hayes and Rickea Jackson crashing the boards as much as possible helping Carter carry the load. JaMya Mingo-Young- has shown rebounding flashes.. Knisha Godfrey having more time to practice with the team, getting up to speed..gives you another guard to help with the ball pressure, ball handling. ect.
    .

    - (#1 option offensively) Get the ball into the post to Jessika Carter as much as possible. Also, she runs the court extremely well.. can get her more offensive looks in transition. Teammates look for her in transition. She's the team's main offensive weapon right now.

    - (#2 option offensively) More consistency with Rickea Jackson, including continuing to limit turnovers. Create more mismatches for her. Other creatiive ways to help get her better looks. Keep working to help add more of a mid-range type addition to her game. Watch videos of Michael Jordan's (notice how his mid-range game was a huge key to his offensive success). My opinion Rickea is as pure talented as anyone in the women's game today...college or pro. She just needs to continue to develop and grow as a player...no limit.

    - (#3 option offensively) Aliyah Matharu. Need Aliyah involed in the offense as much as possible. She's easily the top threat offensivey out of the guards . When she's making baskets...goes well for the team's offensive production, including opening things up for teammates. Also, can run isolations, clearouts with ball screens (or not) for her. Keep in mind offensive spacing..as a team.

Sidney Cooks- gives the team an older, more experienced player, providing leadership, passing, perimeter threat..stretch 4, height, (6-4). ball handing post/forward. ect..other intangibles. Appears to be a utility type player. Coach McCray-Penson continues to speak very highly of her. Also, the staff want hesitate to insert Yemiyah Morris into the games when she feels the need to or just general playing time. Has shown flashes at times.

Charllotte Khol- has played some but kinda like a redshirt season for her. Not expecting this season to ultimately count against her seasons of eligibility.

Sounds good. So it will never happen with McCray-Penson. She gets another year to fix the mess and hang on to the stars. If she can?t keep the stars in the fold, she needs to be let go as soon as they enter the portal. If they stay together and she lays another big fat egg next year, there should be a hardcore jackass of a coach at the start of the 22/23 practice.

Suggest playing Madison Hayes heavy minutes at the 4 spot (hybrid 4) regardless who the starter is. She's very high energy, can rebound like a post player, pass well, pushes the ball hard in transition, scores in various ways, is tough, defends, and is good at drawing contact..geting to the freethrow line, ect.. Utilize her similar to the way Coach Stansbury did with Dietric Slater..as a 6-3 hybrid power forward on the men's basketball team. Those that remember Dietric and his role, significance on that team can give account of. Folks..Slater at the 4 spot was a problem, a huge problem for opponents. Looking at Madison Hayes..appears a player that can successfully take on this hybrid type role. Big keys are high energy, toughness, hustle, rebounding, guard skills, craftiness on both ends, ect. Matchup problem. Also, remember Coach Schaefer having really good success with Victoria Vivians at the 4 spot. This helps a lot with team spacing as well.

Possibly consider really turning up the defensive pressure, going with an all out press, including various traps, ect. Help put the smaller guards in better position to be successful.

She's not going to be let go after 1 year unless she loses every player on the team or there's an off court issue. Now Cohen has shown a willingness to cut bait after two years which should give some hope in that situation. Admittedly I don't watch a whole lot of their games, but the one's I watched last year it seems like y'all are discussing the same exact problems. Is the coach really this bad? Or did we go star chasing in recruiting and are starting to sow the fruits of that labor?

You have to have a team that hustles to play full court press defense. This team has NONE! It would be disaster.
