Im sure Lemo knows his plans. I doubt he would keep our football staff in the dark.

Correct. I would like to have him, don't get me wrong. I think he can be a contributor at some point wherever he goes. But anybody who watched this year isn't overly concerned. And I watched every game. I'd like to have him sure, but he wasn't even the best defensive guy for Mra this year.

Stone may be a baseball first guy, just like Sawyer may be despite Sawyer being a great football talent. Who knows , maybe States lineup in baseball is too hard to crack Stone sees his future in MLB. Hard to say.
If my kid was told by scouts he’s going to get drafted in baseball with a big signing bonus, that would be hard to turn down. Football doesn’t offer guaranteed money to Undrafted free agents. Hell it’s hard to play two sports in high school nowadays, let alone college. All sports last year around for kids now.

Okay. This is getting ridiculous. Stone has potential. He was clearly MRA’s best defender. We need him. We want him.
However, I agree with many posters that linebackers are easier to find in our recruiting base territory than some other positions. So losing a linebacker recruit doesn’t hurt as much as some other positions.

Sawyer isn't going to play baseball. Stone didn't have a great season because he was coming off a shoulder injury and his team wasn't as good.

And how do you know Blanton isn’t a baseball first guy ? That’s probably driving his decision

Football is what pays the bills.
Baseball is a factor, but football will be the deciding factor.

Probably waters. Now stone is the only with the size to project to fbs, but he did not have a great year. Lot of missed tackles and missed run fits that a 4 star LB should not make in high school.
Looks the part for sure though, so maybe he can develop.

Clearly? According to whom? Now he has the most talent and size, and the best skill set, absolutely. But he often struggled this year. In his defense, he wasn't really healthy the first 4-5 games.

This thread is going to look silly when Stone commits to us.

To be clear, I want him to sign with us. He has the skill set, so he has a chance to develop into a solid contributor wherever he goes.

I think everyone on here would like for Stone to commit to state. Most are just commenting on how its an odd process that doesn’t make much sense from a practical standpoint

Serious question here, some of you are saying SAWYER is not going to play baseball at State, what do you expect him to do then? He WILL NOT beat out Will Rogers for starting QB, if he doesn’t play baseball here he will transfer out. A kid of his HS star power usually don’t have the ego to sit for 3 years before getting their shot. Maybe he does, but I truly don’t see him beating out Greek and Rogers. I am not attacking his character or anything like that but with the portal being so readily available and his high rating from HS I just don’t see him hanging around MState unless he is vested in baseball. MState is not like UGA or UA where kids will hang around because they are winning championships or close to doing it for that matter. Y’all better hope he plays baseball because football will not be the reason he stays.

And YES we all want Stone to commit but it has been a very strange recruitment for him. I am sure if it wasn’t for our title last year it would already be over and he would be in Oxfords mailbox. Plus his brother is a huge factor as well. Would be great to get him, but again Baseball would be the reason we do. But football is the one giving out the money.

It wouldn't surprise me to see him hit the portal. You are right, he ain't beating out Will any time soon, and Will isn't leaving for the NFL early.

If he can't win the job, does it matter? He's not good enough in baseball.

Ole Miss board was commenting they don’t know if baseball is driving his recruitment or not. Football may have more scholarship money but his parents may be able to afford instate tuition rather easily.
Hard to say what is going on there.

I would speak very slowly on saying someone is not good enough. I can think of several players who came in freshman year in baseball was used sparingly because they weren’t good enough then a year later blossomed into our starting lineup. He gave football a shot, doesn’t look like it worked out just yet. He is very talented, but Rogers is top 10 right now Heisman talk. He is not leaving next year even IF he wins the Heisman next year. We have 2 more good years of Rogers before he leaves at the earliest. Sawyer can still contribute on football, it remains to be seen baseball. When you have that kind of athletic talent you give the benefit of the doubt and take a wait and see approach.
