Thats a nice deal to sign, especially being drafted in the 2nd round and the 1st year is a guaranteed 1.5 million. Congrats to Woodard! I can't remember the last time an MSU basketball player signing a million dollar NBA deal, Maybe Arnett Moultrie

That's awesome. $3.3M guaranteed means he made the right decision to leave. He may end up looking woefully underpaid by the time the contract is up, but that's enough guaranteed that even if he doesn't last in the NBA, he'll be able to play basketball as his only career and still live comfortably unless he just suffers a career ending injury.

And if he does look badly underpaid, he could probably use the threat of refusing to resign with them to get them to not exercise the team option in exchange for him signing a multiyear deal that is slightly below market.

I agree it was definitely a good move to leave. He was confident the entire time about his chances so its possible that he and his agent had a few under the table guarantees that if he was available at certain spots, he would be taken and paid well. Either way I'm proud of him

Even after all the taxes and agent fees are taken out he is set up very nicely for the rest of his life with the guaranteed amount. Very happy for him.
