Miss. State vs Jackson State (Women's Basketball)
Game Day
Miss. State vs Jackson State
3:00 pm, Starkville (Live Stats, MSU Radio)
(Few Notes) Jackson State has a really good center name Ameshya Williams listed 6-4, she's a former Miss. State player that transferred out a few years ago. Also, they have a Wichita State transfer, listed 6-6. They've been the dominant team in the SWAC recently. Also...9 seniors listed on their roster.
Additional note...they played #18 Miami a competitive game last season, including forcing them into 27 turnovers (scored 26 pts off of these).

It was a last minute game we picked up because the tournament got cancelled, so they didn't allow fans or get it televised

Something the new coach needs to learn. We don?t let up on an opponent with 6 minutes left. Over the last 5:22, State was 0-12, with missed layups, missed jumpers, missed 3 pointers. During that time period JSU went on a 13-0 run. They outscored the Lady Dogs 24-14 in the 4th Qtr. She needs to learn that the Dogs are the Hammer and the opponents are the Nail.

Were they playing walkons and freshmen by then?

No. Yamiyah Morris, Hayes, Mingo-Young
On the court with Kohl and Caterrion Thompson.
Morris missed 5 layups.
But I was being facetious about lettting up. The second team just didn?t make shots and defense wasn?t very good from that group. But our starters are dominant!

- Rickea Jackson 19 pts, 7 rbs, 4 assists, 2 blks (23 minutes)
- Jessika Carter (14 pts, 3 rbs, 5 blks 23 minutes)
- JaMya Mingo-Young 13 pts, 9 rbs, 5 assists, 2 stls (24 minutes)
- Myah Taylor 11 pts, 7 assists, 5 rbs, 4 stls, 0 turnovers (24 minutes)
(Note)
Started substituting the bench in at the 5:30 mark of the 4th quarter...didn't make a shot, layup, free throw, anything. Went scoreless over the last 5:32 of the game. Went scoreless while clearing the bench.... giving up 13 point to Jackson State. The coaching staff put JaMya-Mingo-Young back in the game late (3:20 left 4th quarter) to help the bench players out. Still a good win, team mostly dominated until late (bench needs work.. offensively and defensively, though Madison Hayes played well for the most part). No Xaria Wiggins.

Stansbury did that and it never worked well. And Mullen almost lost to LSU in 2014 using the same strategy, as I recall.

Where was Matharu?

Xaria Wiggins posted on IG she won’t be available until January. I don’t know if that means it is academic or what.

According to the coach in her press conference it is a medical issue. The timetable for returning isn?t completely certain. It could be sooner than January.
Edited to add:
Per Columbus Commercial Dispatch writer Ben Fortnoy-
Junior guard Xaria Wiggins is currently unavailable after doctors found a blood clot in her right lung in early October a source close to the team told The Dispatch. Wiggins has been able to go through non-contact drills and conditioning, but won't be cleared for full-contact until she finishes the medicine she's on to treat the clot.
