    Just an observation

Not a coach or offensive genius but a follower of MSU sports since 1986.

    1) Our D has been nothing short of amazing this year KUDOS to them. They have kept us in these games. BUT can they not practice a good zone defense? How can our team look good in practice but not against other teams?

    2) Costello and our Wrs can beat man coverage. They however don?t know how to beat zone which unfortunately is all we will ever see. Our Wrs continue their routes as opposed to sitting in the holes of a zone. There are holes in zones. Wes Welker made a living doing it. Make the catch and drop. Does this mean our Wrs don?t know where the holes are? Costello got the big head and throws off of his back foot, trusts his arm too much and is overmatched against zone defense.

    3) Hill does seem to be a different player this year, maybe he is trying not to get hurt, can?t blame him there. But he does tap out a lot more consistently than in years past, could be coincidental since he is running more routes. But when he was running and getting hit in years past he seemed to stay on the field more.

    4) Heath does not understand catch and drop. Hell he does not understand contest the ball. He lets the ball come to him. Peyton is legit. Maybe he doesn?t understand exactly where to sit for the zone but he does have a coach right?

    5) Beating LSU was worst thing State did. Everyone was predicting .500 or worse( including me). After beating them, we along with players thought we were better than we were OR zone defense is literally this offenses crux. LSU is not the LSU of the past. Forget about that win.

    6) if this turns into a true transition year. Then we need to play Rogers, both freshmen rbs and everyone else OL young. Get them used to seeing nothing but zone because that is all they will ever see vs SEC talented defenses while CML is here. PERIOD.

    7) Play GS some to show a wrinkle and the ability to alter your game plan, that kid is a baller and would have gotten every one of the first downs that Costello whimped out on.

    8) CML- take the points every time. Your Def is giving you a chance. Kick the FGs and not only attempt 55+ yarders.

Also, I may be biased but I do believe that SEC defensive players are more athletic than the past players CML has played against. Maybe those zone windows are smaller because the LBs can drop back and come up faster than those he has played against in the past. But we don?t seem to know where the holes are. The Wrs keep running the routes, Spurrier and the other coach (Nichols)needs to teach how to take what they are given.

It’s basically a prevent defense - have you ever seen that be a stifling defense before? The fact that we can’t at least attempt 40 yards fields goals on 70% of drives is ridiculous

The holes in an 8 man zone are very small, and nobody has any experience against it. One of the commentators made the comment last night that he almost never saw an 8 man zone in the NFL. Leach has to find a way to make them quit playing that stuff. This is why we're paying him the big bucks.
There's someone in my head but its not me.
