Yeah might have to say "no" to some things. But it can be done on a case by case basis. Getting rid of a state flag in 2020 that has a symbol synonymous with hate doesn't mean you are agreeing to give everything over to the big bad left. It means you are showing discernment and are being decent on this specific subject. This "we can't give in or they'll take everything" argument is a logical fallacy.

Correct, the flag is obviously a problem that can be solved. Other issues should be resolved singularly.

    Right.

There are a lot of things I disagree with on the Left but changing the state flag is not one of them. Everyone should be in agreement on this one.

Lay aside the question of human decency for a second. Do you think it would be good, bad or neutral for the State to have a referendum and the vote come back as "keep it"? It would unquestionably be bad and I don't see how that can be intelligently argued against.

On the flip side, there is literally no bad that comes from changing it. Only the possibility of good.

The people elected to make decisions in the best interest of the State have to make this decision like they are supposed to do on so many other issues.

    It's a no-brainer.

Back to the OP, I think we for sure have the house votes. But are we sure about the senate?

We have a representative democracy in this country. We elect leaders to make decisions.

This. There has to be some middle ground found or we're screwed. There has to be some compromise from both sides on all issues. When people start drawing lines in the sand and no compromise exists bad s*** starts to happen.

I don't care what anyone says. This doesn't happen this fast unless Kylin makes his stand. Period.

So he might be selfish or whatever everyone else who disagrees with him calls him, but a black college running back from Mississippi just laid the path to get the state flag removed.

Sorry to those of you who are pissed. But we just witnessed what action can get you.

Should MS change the flag? Yes
Should statues of founding fathers be destroyed? No
Should confederate monuments be moved to museums? Yes
Should lady antebellum change their name? No

Case by case and common sense, folks

I want to publicly say I was wrong about Kylin. I have always wanted the flag changed, but I wasn't sure what he was doing would make that much of a difference. The ball was already rolling, but he kicked it down the hill, and it's because of him that we're at this point this quickly. So I want to man up and say I'm sorry and I was wrong Kylin. You showed courage, and I couldn't be prouder that you're a Bulldog.

When it stops being racist, it will stop. Sorry, but Forrest County (I assume is named for NB Forrest) needs a name change. In no way, should anyone in Mississippi have to live in a county named for that dude.

So you are right. It will not stop with the flag. We have plenty of history that needs celebrating that has nothing to do with racism, the confederacy, or the bigotry of the 1860s-1969.

I love Mississippi and I'm proud to be a son of Mississippi and I love it so much that I want it to move forward and progress and this change will at least be a start.
