Miss. State Women's Basketball Recruiting....new staff

Since taking over the women's basketball head coaching job at Miss. State, Coach Nikki McKray-Penson and her staff have been having to hit the road running...building relationships, ect. One of the first things that Coach McKray-Penson did, even before bringing in her staff was reach out to the program's current players, signees, recruits, ect. Was eventually able to hold on to nearly the whole returning squad, and incoming freshman signee Madison Hayes as well. (Note) Chloe Bibby announced transferring soon after Coach Schaefer took the Texas job. Jayla Hemingway had already opted out. Everyone else stayed.

Also, the staff picked up a very capable 5-11 grad-transfer shooting guard during the off-season....CatterrionThompson, transferring in from Bowling Green. She's a noted 3 point shooter. Picked up a 6-5 fresh post from Europe with international experience as well....Charlotte Kohl.

Staff appears to have lost out on several of it's top class of 2021 targets thus far but still landed a couple of more than solid commits from this class...K'Nisha Godfrey and Mia Moore. Also, several top targets still on the board. Remember that transfers, transfer portal (including grad-transfers)....option for 2021 as well...quite a few teams have been building up better out of the transfer portal than with the kids straight out of high school.

Still have remaining targets for 2021 and beyond, still recruiting. (Note) Couple of the top 2021 remaing..Kayla McPhereson (lists Miss. State in her top 5) and Damiya Hagemann (lists Miss. State in her top 7).

I think getting two top 100 2021 guards already is a plus. This year recruiting they are behind the 8-ball. I expect to get some even higher rated 2022 prospects.

Vic recruited at a high level I expect this staff will too. Right now Dawn Staley is the best recruiter in WBB like her or not that's a fact.

Any idea how Vic's recruiting at Texas is going?

I think he already has two top 20 prospects. No surprise. I’ll be shocked if they don’t have a national championship within 5 years.

Catterrion Thompson scored 33 in her last game as a senior including 8 threes.
