It's amazing to sit there and watch your country crumble before your eyes and not want change. If you're in Gen X, you gotta ask yourself, is 3/4 of the republican presidents in your life time having an economic crisis a coincidence or something more?
This is America. Supposedly the greatest nation in the world. Yet I can't seem to find anything we seem to be the greatest at anymore. But it's blasphemy to even speak that way or suggest change.
It is because you are barking up the wrong tree. You don't understand what made America great in the first place so you spew forth communistic ideas (government is the answer) hoping some secular part of it will stick. You are trying to change America into the hell hole millions of people around the world are fleeing.
To understand what made America great YOU need a good foundation in the Bible, the US Constitution, the Federalist Papers, letters from our American Founders and even the works of Tocqueville and others. Go to wallbuilders.com and read the book Original Intent, it is an eye opener! The mainstream press and American education in the past 40 years will not tell you that - they like revisionist history instead.
Since this nation was founded on the belief of God and Jesus Christ, our "values" are based on something ABSOLUTE and objective. This is necessary in order for our "values" to have any enduring strength and binding force. The laws of God in the Bible, and specifically the Ten Commandments, have been the bedrock of western civilization for 2,000 years. Judeo-Christian concepts of justice and legitimate authority shaped the English Common Law and later the American Declaration of Independence, with its recognition of inalienable rights bestowed upon men by their Creator.
These Biblical foundations of authority, based upon the righteous character of a Holy God, are morally superior to the depravity practiced by all pagan cultures, both ancient and modern. But these foundations have been abandoned in our day by our education systems and even at our highest level of government.
As you know (hopefully anyway), the Supreme Court expelled God from the public schools in 1962 and 1963, when they ruled that prayer and Bible reading in school had become unconstitutional. Today the moral precepts of the Ten Commandments can no longer hang on the walls of our children's public classrooms. Yet many people can't understand why the generation that reached adulthood in the '60s and '70s turned out so rootless and rebellious.
You want to know how to make America great again? Turn back to God, instill biblical principles in our children - must be taught in our schools and live moral lives. One of our founding fathers, John Adams (letters also referenced in the book Original Intent - see above) said " Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

"Canada, Sweden, and a lot of Europe"...though, yes, they have more social programs and safety nets than US, their economies are all still very much capitalistic.

Well I've been pigeon-holed as the resident Marxist when I made a point about Heaven being the very definition of communism. That's the ideal perfection. I've also stated that that clearly isn't achievable.
And just by the very mention of anting to go towards the socialistic policies these countries have, I'm a comrade. Even though America has more in common with Russia than with Canada at this point.
There are flaws with every form of government. But the first step to solving a problem is admitting it. And some on here can't.

To understand what made America great YOU need a good foundation in the Bible, the US Constitution, the Federalist Papers, letters from our American Founders and even the works of Tocqueville and others. Go to a bookstore and read the books The Deluge and The Wages of Destruction, it is an eye opener! The mainstream press and American education in the past 40 years will not tell you that - they like revisionist history instead.
Since this nation was found on the hypocritical belief that taxation without representation is unfair, but slavery is cool, our "values" are based on something IMAGINARY and subjective. This is necessary in order for our "values" to have any enduring strength and binding force. The laws of God in the Bible, and specifically the Ten Commandments, have NOT been the bedrock of western civilization for 2,000 years. Judeo-Christian concepts of justice and legitimate authority (for only specific people) shaped the English Common Law and later the American Declaration of Independence, with its recognition of inalienable rights bestowed upon (white) men (and not women) by their Creator.
These Biblical foundations of authority, purportedly based upon the righteous character of a Holy God, are morally equivalent to the depravity practiced by all pagan cultures, both ancient and modern. But these foundations have slowly been abandoned in our day by our education systems and even at our highest level of government. We finally started treating almost every as subhumans. The inner circle got smaller. From white men to rich white men to rich to stupid rich.
As you know (hopefully anyway), the Supreme Court expelled (one form of worshipping) God from the public schools in 1962 and 1963, when they ruled that prayer and Bible reading in school had become unconstitutional (finally agreeing with their first amendment). Today the moral precepts of the Ten Commandments can no longer hang on the walls of our children's public classrooms. Yet many people can't understand why the generation that reached adulthood in the '60s and '70s turned out so rootless and rebellious. (It's almost like they weren't indoctrinated anymore and started seeing reality for what it was.)
You want to know how to make America great again? Be good to your fellow person, care for our children (don't have police escalate a situation with a 12 year old boy and kill him over a toy gun) - must be taught in our police academies and only pass those who live moral lives. One of our founding fathers, John Adams (letters also referenced in the book Original Intent - see above) said " Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." <--- He was wrong. It was made for a group that didn't define people and humans properly.
quoting you this time to drive home the copy pasta point.

Point to me where anyone has claimed the way it is now is perfect.
Are you running a 12 step program or something?

Some would have you believe it used to be perfect and want to pull backwards in that direction.
Stop trying to play everything so black and white searching for a gotcha. Makes you out to be an agent against forward thinking.

This is unhinged. IF we're becoming anything, we're slowly becoming something like UK/France/Italy. We are growing the state a ton, have a birth rate below replacement rate, are creating teh same weird mix of increasing tolerance for things unless they violate pc sensibilities, in which case we are becoming much less tolerant, and are creating liabilities that we aren't going to meet. THe big difference is that we are not taxing our poor and middle class as much and we are mostly still very strong on 1st amendment and 2nd amendment, even while our population becomes less respectful of the ideals of free speech and free exercise. If we could get Canada to adopt free speech and free exercise while we adopted their fiscal responsibility, both countries would get a lot better.

We are still the greatest nation in the world. There are a lot of good countries though, and many of them do some things as good or better than the US. Some of them just offer different alternatives that aren't better but may be more attractive or less depending on your preferences.

Your ignorance is overwhelming!! The only point you are driving home is your are totally ignorant of the Bible and what God requires of mankind! Don't try to lecture me, you are way out of your realm of knowledge. See Ephesians 4:14: " Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming." You have no foundation to base your arguments other than your own desires. Mine is based on the unwavering word of God!! See my previous post - again.
