LAKELAND, Fla. ? A series of scary things happened to the Detroit Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
A jagged, broken bat nearly hit one of the Tigers. A line drive hit a pitcher.
But the most frightening of all happened when a foul ball went screaming into the Tigers? dugout and struck outfielder Jacob Robson in the face.
Robson, a non-roster invitee and former Mississippi State baseball player, has been placed in concussion protocol and is expected to miss a week.
?He has a concussion,? Tigers manager Ron Gardenhire said after the Tigers tied the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-8, in Grapefruit League opener. ?He took a line drive into our dugout. He got it, right on the cheek. They checked him out, concussion protocol. So he is going to have to miss a few days here. He?s doing OK.?

Robson, 25, is from London, Ontario. He grew up a Tigers fan and climbed to Triple-A Toledo last year, where he hit .267 in 112 games.
?When a line drive goes in the dugout, in the middle of a lot of people, it was hot,? Gardenhire said. ?Somebody is getting whacked. All you hope is that it doesn?t get somebody in the face.?
?And I think it got him in here,? Gardenhire continued, pointing at his cheek.
