Bibby is not the same shooter since the knee injury. AEH doesn't normally play enough to be a factor but maybe if she was shooting better she would earn more playing time. I personally think Bibby, AEH and Danberry have all regressed since last year. But they are the focus of the defense now where Big T and Howard were more the focus last year.

We were up by 9 last I checked. What is going on with this team?

AEH is not getting enough minutes to get in a groove. Anyone that has played basketball knows that affect. AEH shooting is probably fine. Announcers have said she didn't miss a shot pregame on some nights. AEH is a shooter. Shooters gotta shoot. Remember Vivians. VV plays 3 min a night and she is not any good either.

No urgency, no leadership and at times just very poor effort. Freshmen I guess.

Schafer will fix it. We will play in the finals in the SEC tourney and win a few in the big dance. Shitty loss though. First bad loss I remember Vic having

Like your optimism and think he will fix it but it will not be this year. Been waiting for the fix for months. He is tinkering but just not gotten through yet.
Manu of the players looked stressed and not enjoying the game thus not fully engaged. Different mentality with this year's team. Vic's style is so not todays young person which I like but wonder if it is clashing a bit?

Too good to play these scrubs is what it looked like. Jist kidding, I didn't watch the game.
-
Bibby and AEH will not be successful in a dribble drive offense.

This team just kinda is what it is. Good, not great. Sweet 16 or Elite 8 ceiling but that’s about it, and the Sweet 16 isn’t a given.
But that was always going to be the case with this group. The strong performance against SC was probably a little misleading for this group, that performance was not the norm.Doesn’t change the fact that this will be their worst team for the next several years and they’ll likely be right back playing at the standard we are accustomed to next season with even more talent coming in and very little going out.

Anything, always possible... can't count this group out.
Also ..next season
(Projected Lineup...2 deep)
- Myah Taylor, JaMya Mingo-Young
- Madison Hayes, Aliyah Matharu
- Rickea Jackson, Xaria Wiggins
- Jessika Carter, Chloe Bibby/Deyona Gaston
- Sidney Cooks, Yemiyah Morris
Any of these listed below could possibly work there way...just keep working, getting better
- A. Espinoza Hunter
- Jayla Hemingway
- Promise Taylor
Wouldn't be surprised if the coaching staff took a good look at the grad transfers portal...especially for a really good shooter. Also, a good opportunity for Madison Hayes to step in as a true freshman as a primary candidate to start somewhere in the lineup.

I agree. They will be much better defensively next year. I still see them a little physically and mentally fatigued.

Overall, Coach Schaefer, and his staff are continuing to do an absolute exceptional job with this basketball program.
Also, rebuilding/reloading much faster than programs like Muffet McGraw at Notredame.

Vic has coddled them. Way out of character for him. Every presser he spends half of it excusing their actions bc of youth. Yesterday at his presser was the first time in a while I've heard him call them out about lack of toughness, focus, and leadership. Bout time.
Danberry, Taylor, Bibby, hunter, Carter, Wiggins are not freshman or newcomers. They've all been in the program at least two seasons now. Stop with the excuses. And figure out the rotation. It's been almost 4 months and it is no more settled now than November. He didn't baby ro, v, Blair, and mo like that. Nor should he.

Yo are spot on with that assessment. Those are my thoughts and the same goes for Bibby.

We stopped recruiting grinders and started star chasing. It's just a college basketball problem across both men's and women's. If you star chase you can't treat them the way you did your under recruited players or you'll lose them. However, there's no excuse for the returners to be playing as bad as they are. And there's a reason Hunter doesn't get enough minutes......she plays ZERO defense. She's a 3 and D player without the ability to play D. Vic won't put up with someone not playing D.

I hear ya, but none of our guards are plus defenders. Taylor is at times. Danberry should be with her quickness but is not. I think this team just doesn't love to play defense.
And hunter is prob our only option of getting hit against a zone and killing it. Let her shoot 8 threes and she prob makes 4 of them.

Hit the nail on the head. And with Hunter, maybe she could get hot, but she's a spot shooter so she has to be open. She can't really create her shot. So our only real option is run her along the baseline and screen the outside of the zone and hope she starts hitting to make them extend the zone. And that's just not how this team is able to succeed. I mean if we had shooters the dribble drive motion would be an option, but we don't.

I just think Vic needs to ride them harder about their defense and stop excusing it due to perceived youth. He wouldn't have put up with that crap 4 years ago when the last nucleus were sophomores.

Again, if it was 4 years ago he could do that. He had a bunch of under recruited grinders (Dillingham, Okorie, Johnson, Chapel, etc.) that he could mold and teach them to play his way. He doesn't have that anymore. He's got a bunch of highly recruited 4 and 5 stars that have gotten by on talent alone for their entire careers. You push them and they'll transfer. It's the nature of the college basketball world.

You think? Which ones you think would transfer if coached hard?
