    As fans...

As fans we have got to get out of the mentality that familiar = Good. A lot of our fans get "comfortable" with certain guys that have been around a while, or guys from Mississippi, or former players, etc. In case y'all missed it, we have never won a SEC Title....only been to 1. Is that not our goal? To INCREASE from where we have been in the past? How are we going to do that if we continue to keep the guys that haven't been able to do it? I'm not saying there aren't guys you keep here and there, but Buckley has never been a lights out recruiter and neither has Austin. Yes, Austin knows how to play the game....the game that never got us higher than a top 20-25 class. Yes, Buckley is well liked and was "in the game" on lots of stud recruits....that all ended up signing with other teams and saying "but Buckley is a great guy". So if we want to stay recruiting 10-12th in the SEC and coming CLOSE to getting studs, sure rehire Buck and Austin. OR, we can give something new a try and see what happens.

Newberry has the stats of a guy that develops and is aggressive, and I love the turnovers, sacks, and the 4-2-5/3-4 defense vs today's offenses. This staff appears to be taking shape as a staff that focuses on discipline, development, and aggression. It appears we will be tough, and I've thought a lot lately that the coaches and players seemed too much like buddies and friends versus players and coaches. Maybe getting away from what hasn't worked at a high level could be what we need. I admit change can be scary since we have been to 10 straight bowls and had some success....and I agree that there is a clear risk of falling back down to where we were. But at this point Leach is here so we can all jump on board and see if this change propels us, or we can question every change and possibly aid in keeping it from maximizing its potential. A couple things are certain....
    1) We were in the cellar most of our history
    2) We were headed back to the cellar under Joe
    3) Even in our best years of Mullen, we only finished higher than 4th in the West, what, once?
    4) If we tank, we won't have too far to climb to get back to where we are now

So let's all pull the rope and get behind these changes and see if we can do our part to hopefully use this new hire and this change, to propel us to that Next Level we've all been hoping for since 2014. What do we have to lose?

That's my opinion. For what it's worth.

ETA: And quit letting Ole Miss affect your thoughts on everything. It's weak and embarrassing. We play them once a year and will always split recruits with them.

I agree. And good luck to them if they do. We have become soft, and that must change.

Agreed. We have to think out of the box to be successful. We can't hamstring ourselves to certain coaches just because they are from MS or were once good players. It makes no sense because no one successful does that. We have to be innovative in how we hire. We don't have money the big folks do. So we have to search more for fit and cost. Facts of life.

We don't know what's best for the program. We all have our own agendas from our own personal experiences. Why don't we let Mike Leach do what he gets paid to do before we start saying he's wrong or that he's hurting the program by not keeping certain people.

Great stuff Cadaver. You're exactly right

Another think is Leach is a NATIONAL coach. He's going to recruit the state but be prepared for us to chase kids from coast to coast.

When you step outside of the Mississippi mindset, it makes more sense.

Well said, CD! The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I think it's time we try a different path. I'm kinda glad Leach is cleaning house.

I am too. We had too many "friends" on the coaching staff and not enough coaches.

Well said Cadaver, it's was time for a flush and that's where we are. We are hiring Football Coaches which is exactly what has been needed here for a while. Now it's on to the second part of the cleaning and folks don't need to freak out when a name or two go down the river.

Oh, the possibilities should we ever give a good flush to the AD internal office and especially the Compliance office 👀🤔

    This is Big Boy football.

We are going to have some growing pains but the payoff is going to be HUGE.

I am wondering if this bit of group think is really true. I think the head coach was soft, not the players. They just took the slack given to them.

I am hoping these dudes are tougher than the year 1 TTU and WSU staffs. Also, Leach has more credibility now - he has done it his way against the odds at 2 stops. Hopefully our players can see that.

He is not going to relax his standard, though. So it is shape up or ship out.

For a 'cadaver' that's a pretty 'livley' post that I am fully behind.
