This movie suffered because it had to fix a lot from episode 8. I think most Star Wars fans that watch it would be satisfied with how it ended and how the characters were treated.

I hope Disney takes about five years off between this and the next trilogy because I think they are giving everyone Star Wars fatigue with a new Star Wars movie coming out basically every year. Solo I think suffered a lot from that plus the backlash from Episode 8 even though it was a pretty good movie I thought. The nerds are ruining Star Wars too. They're all like "Well, Rey's back story should have been this like my theory and since it wasn't they've ruined Star Wars and I'd like to see more character development about that random guy in the Space Bar that really had nothing to do with anything and then that X-wing fighter pilot who got shot down- if they had explored his backstory his death would have been a lot more meaningful."
This. I really enjoyed the movie but it had a lot to fix from the giant "**** you" letter than Rian Johnson mailed the fans with his Last Jedi. It felt like Abrams was fitting two movies into one movie. I just read that early on Abrams actually considered making it a 2 part movie...which would have probably been a good idea. I just wish that Rise of Skywalker would have started with Rey waking up to everything in the Last Jedi being a bad dream from drinking too much green milk.

I enjoyed it but it felt like JJ took everything that was popular on fansites and made a movie out of it. There were rumors that the initial movie was REALLY BAD. The rumor was they had to fix a lot of the plot in several months. Apparently the screenings they held, only people that had never watched a star wars movie didn't completely hate it and even then it was rated as mediocre. It was to the point that they almost pushed the movie back but decided to redo a lot and push for the premier date.

I rewatched the entire series and came to several conclusions.

    1. Other than Jar Jar, the prequels are pretty good and better than I remember. If George had made Jar Jar a secret Sith then it would have made them a lot better.

    2. The originals are good but my nostalgia makes them better.

    3. The Last Jedi isn't as bad as I remembered but it is still my least favorite movie. The whole plot of the movie is centered around Leia and Hodo not trusting Poe with the plan. He is important enough to get Luke's map and face down a Dreadnaught alone but not enough to tell him they plan on getting close to a planet and abandon ship. Also the entire casino side quest was pretty cringeworthy.

    4. Rise of the Skywalker is a good ending but could have been a better "movie". I appreciated some of the things that Rian did with The Last Jedi but the overall movie wasn't that good. It is almost the opposite of Episode 9. The movie played it safe a lot but was a good movie just not great.
