Completely Irresponsible Video Hot Takes From Practice #1
Look, I realize this is completely irresponsible & means nothing, but, since it was the first day of practice & everyone is starving for information & hot takes, here is my best shot from videos posted from twitter yesterday.
Here are the videos that caught my eye & what my thought was:
1. Isaiah Zuber - In videos yesterday, my thought was, "man that guy is fluid & athletic". I can see why he has been successful. He's exactly what we need. With this type of light feet & quickness, I could see him being an excellent route runner that is always open. Looks like a bigger Kevin Prentiss to me.

2. Tommy Stevens - As we spoke about in another thread, the winner of this position will come down to who runs the offense best & who can read the defenses, but off the cuff Tommy Stevens looks "right". If I had a dime for every time I've heard an MSU QB has to fix a mechanical issue, I'd be a millionaire, but with Stevens, there is nothing to fix. His arm action & delivery are clean & he shows some feel with the way the ball accelerates out of his hand. From a pure physical standpoint, he looks like he should be the most accurate QB we've had since Dak. Of note, he's 6'5 - 6'6" but looks smaller on the video. IMO that's a good thing because he's keeping things simple & compact.

3. And for the thing that stood out most to me yesterday, Whop has gotten more athletic. I felt last year his feet looked heavy & stuck in concrete to some degree, but his body & agility looks better in this video than I remember. Could be a huge sleeper for us

Member you going on-and-on about how great the fitz to Guidry pass in practice was last year? I member... you declared us a top flight offense pretty much from one clip.

Dang straight I did. I'll wear that badge of shame.

Haha... i try not to even watch these clips too much bc everyone sorta looks like an AA against air.

Not only are these catches against air, in both of the first clips with Zuber, he juggled both catches. These drills show very little. I hope for the best and reserve judgement until we face SEC defenses. Hail State!

Well... of course. But we can discuss something for a month or we can discuss nothing.

I was just messing with you. I like reading threads like this even if they get carried away some

Agree. It's all we have this time of year, which as you know i believe is ridiculous, but nonetheless we should attempt to have fun & prognosticate when we even have a sliver of information.
The trick is having fun with it & not getting egotistical

They were pretty good at 4:38

Someone should save all of the positive from Shotgun being said now so we can remember it when he’s trashing the team during the season.

Don't even have to look to know the play. That was such a awesome play and game

I certainly have my ups & downs, but I care. In the end, I'll ALWAYS come around to finding the silver lining or the optimistic viewpoint, but my path to getting there can & likely will be a roller coaster

Yeah, Guidry is a conundrum to me.
On the videos last year & even yesterday, he looks like a potential All-SEC caliber athlete & WR, but I didnt' realize that catching the ball wasn't his strong suit. Hopefully his hands have gotten stronger in the off season or we coat his ass in that tar substance from Home Alone

I think you are reaching pretty hard here but the only thing I could take was, the Stevens throw to Dear on the corner route was one that we struggled like hell to complete on air in the spring. And Whop needs to use his hands more on his release

Of course I'm reaching hard here but it gave you something to read and discuss, which was the only point.
If you want a good laugh, follow the Cowboy's media guys on twitter. They video and tweet tons of plays from practice and the fans bitch and complain about every incomplete pass. It's pretty funny

I appreciate your valiant effort

And the most surprising news to me was Corliss Waitman is not on the team and probably wont be barring a miracle. I dont understand why they dont let Scott Goodman punt it anyway.

Whose throwing the ball to Zuber? He's waiting on every pass

Exactly.
Many years of being a Bulldog has taught me not to get too excited. Stevens has yet to face an SEC defense. I hope he's one of the best in the SEC this year, but my feeling is that he will be closer to the middle of the pack.
