    Sec tournament format

I haven't seen the new Hoover format discussed. Essentially, seeds 5-12 have to play an elimination game on Tuesday to make the 8-team double elimination tourney. This gives seeds 1-4 a big advantage, but not so much as the top 2 got last year. We have a chance to finish in the top 4- also a good goal as it seems likely for SEC to get 4 host sites. http://www.secdigitalnetwork.com/Por...3BBBracket.pdf

Wow, that's terrible. Single elimination for 1 day, then double elimination for a while, and then back to single elimination? Absurd.

    Either:
--Take all 14 and make it single elimination. Not a great baseball format, but at least it's consistent throughout. The tournament is about $$ anyway, not fairness in formatting, and 14 fanbases maximizes the money.
--Go back to taking the top 8 only and make it fully double elimination. Most years, 9th place is going to be deserving of an NCAA bid, so we'd have to lobby the committee to not have any asinine unwritten rules about teams having to make their conference tournament.
--Find a way to have 10, 12, or whatever but stay double elimination. This would add days to the tournament, but help the 9th place team in the NCAA committee's eyes.
--Get rid of the tournament altogether like the Pac-12 and other conferences did and use the weekend to finish up a full 39-game round robin.

None of these solutions are great, but all 4 of them are better than the actual 12-team format or last year's awful 10-team format.
