Since this came originally from a PF tweet, it is very hard to believe. Nutt has OM by the short hairs, why not go for the jugular? Bleed all the money he can and cripple their program at the same time.

I find this very hard to believe. Do you really think a hired gun like Mars would've

taken a case like this for "peanuts"? I ain't buying it, at all.

Because eventually money goes away. But a committee like this, if created, would be a constant reminder to everyone why it was created, who funded it, and why they had to fund it. Ole Miss clearly has money or else they wouldn't have been in a position to do what they did. An accountability commission would last forever.

The committee could not be set up with legal authority. The legislature and governor would have to establish and give that body a role and standing - not to mention penalties/punitive capacity. No civil action imposed on a University could force that on a state.
It's a great black eye initially aimed at UNM that could be used against US in recruiting (possibly only state in SEC with such a commission cuz we so dang corrupt) and later weaponized by UNM loyalists for their purposes. Probably why - and I could be wrong this early in the AM - nobody else has one. Food for thought.

Besides the instant UNM settles - they admit publicly their defense that Freeze ran the compliance of the program honestly, as told to the NCAA, is a LIE. Not a position they can take going into the hearing. Clearly Nutt's legal team knows this.

Psst.... For OM to settle with anyone.... they have to present the information to IHL for them to decide if the settle is in the best interest of the college.... Remember the governor etc... all grads of OM appointment IHL members. There is plenty corruption still to come out.... At least one of the croots WAS under 18.....

Y'all are assuming the commission has to be state sanctioned and an arm of the state, like the ethics commission. It doesn't necessarily have to be. It can be private.

I think the full out public apology from OM to Nutt is the key here, not the proposed committee.

Not only did Mississippi State embarrass LSU on this night. Davis Wade Stadium wrecked Tiger Stadium in music choice, atmosphere and, most of all, volume.

Exactly. it will go sideways quickly and become a mouthpiece for Ole Miss "exemplary cooperation" propaganda.

Ole Miss willfully violated state law. Any toothless, non-state, non-NCAA committee is something they won't give time of day to.

I can't believe that Mars hired these other two highly rated specialist Attorneys for a settlement of only $500,00 to be funded into a commission. They still may want a public apology from OM, as this would make OM's already weak proposal to the NCAA really blow up in OM"s face.

It's funny, listening to the Umiss homer on the radio a few minutes ago he mentions the nothing to dirty Nutt and $500k for the commission, but he pretty much blows off the apology. He mentioned the apology only in passing once. Saying they should get rid of Nutt by agreeing.

Edit: now he says he doesn't think the apology is part of the agreement. Wat a dumass. Finally, someone texts him to let him know the apology is still wanted.

But anyway, he will have Wolken on shortly at 12:45 on 105.9 in Jackson.

they know ole miss will never accept those terms. And an offer of settlement kicks in the possibility that Nutt could recover attorney fees if it is rejected and he is ultimately successful. Will be spun by OM folks that this is a clear indication that his lawsuit holds no water, instead, it is just going to make ole miss look even worse for not accepting.

^^^THIS^^^ Yet another 3D Chess move by Mars that gives the perception of this not being about money, but in the end OM's rejection of this settlement will cost them $$$

Does requiring the public apology not cloud the issue of teh settlement? If he ends up winning $501,000, could Ole Miss not then say but he didn't get injunctive relief requiring an apology, so he's not entitled to attorneys' fees?
