Lunch today was a sirloin, saut?ed garlic green beans, and grilled veggies from Applebee's. Before you laugh, bear with me for 1 second. I was handling some business and needed a quick bite. I'm still on a keto diet so my choices are limited. I knew I could at least get a grilled piece of meat and veggies. I look at the menu and notice they're doing hand cut sirloins and pork chops. I decided to give it a try. I used to work with Applebee's in the early 2000s and back then they used an irregular cut sirloin. Average quality and incredibly inconsistent as far as size but they used them because it was cheap. I didn't eat steaks there back then. I figure if they're hand cut it's at least a solid choice selection. Got my steak and first thing I see is a course pepper on it. They've upgraded the seasonings I see. Cut in, perfect medium. Couldnt believe I was eating a pretty good steak at Applebee's. Meat quality was great for choice grade. Now am I saying it was Shapley's quality? Hell no. If I'm using a solid choice grade as my grading scale it was good. Applebee's moving up to that (which still isn't high) is an enormous step up in quality. I'm not telling you to go to Applebee's for a steak but I will say I was happy with mine today.

Beast - anything Applebeas can do to improve the menu would be welcome. Last visited one in 2014 and swore I would never go back. I did eat a dump truck load of riblets at that one in Columbus on all you can eat Tuesday several times - way before we got the one in Vegas.

No grilling tonight, but this was fun:

I remember when that Columbus Applebee's opened. You would have thought that Ruth's Chris had opened with the way everyone reacted. I was working at Woody's, and the chef there said "why the 17 anyone wanna eat that shit steak. That ain't steak."

We had the year end band banquet tonight - so fried rubber chicken, canned green beans, and mashed potatoes from a box for me. I know y'all are jealous.

One of my favorite dishes. I can eat half a loaf of French bread with good BBQ shrimp

Picked it up at my local ABC store yesterday. Was surprised to see it, as I was thinking this would only be available in KY.

Still on my keto plan so I had a bacon cheeseburger salad for lunch. Lettuce, cheddar, onion, tomatoe, pickle, chopped burger, and yellow mustard. Pretty damn good.

Picked up a couple lbs of shrimp this afternoon. Drinking a few water my beers and calling it a night. Planning on hunting down some trout early if the wind will cooperate.

Thanks. I have found, recently, the trick is to not put the lid on the grill and use a super hot coal bed. You have to rotate it ever few minutes, but really limits the chance of over cooking....also adds a great crust with your BBQ sauce baste.
