HOF Day
Happy National John Smoltz Day! My favorite of the Big 3 and one of the greatest big game pitchers of our lifetimes.

Pedro Martinez 1999-2002 was the best I've ever seen. My favorite arm of all time.

Will Yankees fans there start chanting "Who's your Daddy?"

Smoltz was my favorite, too. Balls the size of grapefruits. And nasty stuff, especially when he was closing.
It's the roller coaster of hope that this program keeps us on that makes it hell being a State fan. - CadaverDawg, 10/15/22

Special day for this lifetime Astros fan, Craig Biggio knocked it out of the park on his induction speech!

Of the 3 that went in Pedro was the best pitcher, Johnson had the best stuff, and smoltz had a certain degree of both.
I feel like smoltz gets slighted a little bit because injuries took away from what his career numbers could have been...but if he would have started and averaged 12 wins the 4 years he closed he would be at 250 wins and who knows how many K's. Point being, when he was on the mound he was as dominant as anyone else that pitched during the era.

Sandy Koufax was the best I have ever seen on film of course.

I love the fact that John addressed the issue of arm injuries in his speech. He is absolutely correct. Baseball is not a year round sport. Having Tommy John surgery at 18-19 years of age is not normal. This is an epidemic, and the prophylaxis for this starts with the parents. The scouts will find your son who is a player if he is good. You do not have to play him on multiple teams and in multiple showcase events to get him noticed. Let them play football and basketball as well as baseball.

Andrews Sports Medicine agrees with him (yes, that Andrews):

Let your kid play something else after the regular season is over. Muscle groups need to rest and recover.
