The legal answer is you have to buy one.

Definitely buy it. It's actually not too hard to bootleg, but it's worth it to spend the money and avoid all the little issues that will arise down the road from running an unlicensed copy.

If you're coming here to ask, you should probably just go ahead and buy Windows 7 and be done with it.

Windows XP is losing the support from Windows. Windows 7 is mainly better for a desktop that is NOT touchscreen. If you have a touchscreen, however, Windows 8 is designed for you. The only real way for you to get Windows 7 now from any retailer online is to go to the business side of it which will give you Windows 7 Professional, which I'm sure many of you will need/want. If you get the touchscreen, however, or any hybrid computer/tablet then you will have to go with Windows 8.
