Staley in GA State Title Tonight

How about a bright spot amongst the doom and gloom.....

HS Basketball season is wrapping tonight in GA.

The Wheeler Wildcats have fought through some injuries and some tight games to make it to the State AAAAAA Finals Saturday at 8:45 pm (ET) in Macon.

Wheeler's semi-final match-up with Pebblebrook was tight at half time - but with a burst of 7 points by Elijah Staley in he 3rd Qtr., the Wildcats pulled away and won easily 65-47. Staley finished with 17.

Basketball coverage in GA is pretty crappy - so I have not been able to do the updates I did for football. Maybe someone else can chime in with Elijah's stats for the season.

Wheeler is 27-5 (13-1 in region play) and will face a tough opponent in south GA power Tift County 28-3. The Blue Devils have been to the state playoffs ever year since 1994, and made a run to the Quarter-Finals last year before being de-railed.

The game will be on GPB if you are in Georgia, and for those interested not in GA it is webcast here:

I won't be able to watch - so I will only recap what I find on-line later. If someone else wants to jump in with info, feel free.

Awesome!! Go Elijah!! I know his team has two 5* players and Staley is a 4* himself in basketball so they sound loaded with talent.

Coachcamp posted in one of my threads in the fall that when Elijah was younger he was a ball boy for Marietta High School - which is where Ewing, Jr. played - and was on the team at that time. It was one of the schools they considered when they left Harrison a couple of years ago.

Wheeler as a team just had way to many turnovers and to few free throws ... Tift had an aggressive defense ... Elijah started out a little slow but warmed as the game progressed ... only 3 points scored by Wheeler in the first period, then they tied it in the second but Tift never would let them get any closer after that ... Elijah isn't just big - he's talented and well co-ordinated ... will prove himself an asset for State athletics
