Redfish Limit Change (possibly)
The CMR meeting did change the quota for commercial redfish fisherman. They got an up. http://www.sunherald.com/2013/12/17/...al-limits.html
The chatter is that they will possibly lower the MS slot to more closely resemble LA's. It's currently 18-30. They might (please please please) move it to 16-30. Honestly I'd like the slot to move down on the upper end too, to under 30. For now I'll just hope and pray that 18 gets bumped down to 16. I've eaten many a redfish from LA under 18 and it is always great.

Yep. The current slot allows for keeping 1 over-sized fish (30+ inches). I wouldn't keep a fish that big b/c it wouldn't eat good.

Roger that !!! .... I tried a big bull only once and no amount of Lowry's or other cajun seasoning could help ... ended up tossing it and learned a lesson ... exact same rule applies to king mackerel

Black Drum is the exact same way. A slot puppy drum is delicious. I saw a bull drum get cleaned and it sealed the deal for me. Nasty red meat and a few spots of worms.
ETA- Was told once by a charter captain that the big bull reds and black drums were 30 years old and up. I just googled it and this says they live up to 40. So odds are that if you eat that 34 inch bull red, its 35 years old http://www.seagrantfish.lsu.edu/reso...ts/redfish.htm
