We can?t be great unless Hubbard finds it
-
He wasn't great last year. He just shot a ton
-
Seems like his percentage is less but I would have to see the stats .
I don?t know.
-
His Five Foot Teness has caught up to him. But I'm more concerned with decisions by Jans late in games to sit producers. Melendez is twice the athlete Hubbard is and shoots at a higher %. But at the last 1:02, why was state looking for 3's to tie it? Where is our post presence? We should have had at least 2 possessions in 1:02 if we had made a 2 to make it 93-92. But nope! Jack City from the 3 point line. Every time State tries to play UK or Alabama or Auburn or Florida in "their" style, ass gets bit!

Did Kugel not go back in once he got hurt? He was our most productive player other than Cam.
We actually played a great game and great defense. Kentucky just COULD NOT MISS. Was at game, it was so frustrating to watch.
Still, we are every bit of a top 15 team. We were more physical and did everything better than UK but 3 pointers. It was just one of those night. It sucks that it came in a game we really needed at home but I am not any less down on this team. We will bounce back and still compete for the conference.

Kugel came back in and then hurt his ankle.

We lost tonight on perimeter d. At some point you just have to sell out to stop the 3 ball even if you give up.some easy 2s when they are making them at that rate.
-
Hubbard has to find better shots. He's forcing 3 pointers. Not driving as much as he did last year. He's made 16 of his last 55 3 pointers. That's 29%.
For a stretch we looked better with him on the bench and Matthews running point. Hubbard has to find better shots for both himself and his teammates for us to realize our potential.
-
I mean, there's probably a lot of pressure on Hubbard and he knows that, but yeah, if he's THE guy... he's gotta get out of this scoring funk (15 ain't bad) and take over. We need a Wilson, Zim, Q or Bowers for sure. And please throw stats that say he is, but man, I just don't feel the same about him as those guys. I know the potential is there, obviously.
-
It is a lot to ask of Hubbard but he is a SCORER.
Doesn?t mean it all has to come from 3. In fact I think he would be more effective taking it into lane more often and pulling up from 8 - automatic - just to get them off of him at the 3 pt line.
However he does it, he needs to SCORE. A lot.

They rebound and slash too well offensively. Gotta pack it in. I don't fault Jans for the strategy at all. They just shot lights out. Tip your hat and hope you get another run at them.

opponents are bodying him up and knocking him off his spot. he must adjust

The thing with Josh is, he’ll miss 5 shots in a row and then just look like he gets pissed off, gets downhill, and raises up and drains it. He just needs to let the game come to him more than he is right now. I will say he had some bad luck last night. He had 3 go in and out last night.
Just needs to have a good game on Tuesday. Auburn all of a sudden looks very beatable.

I called Hubbard one of the most talented players we have ever had, and I still feel he is or can be. But after watching this team and the way he is playing this season I'm starting to think that he needs to take fewer shots or be more selective. He seems to force shots more this year, he hit alot of those type shots last season but they arent falling this year, part of it has to do with the fact that he isnt a secret anymore and teams are guarding him differently.
We have plenty enough talent on this year's team that we dont need Hubb taking as many shots a game as he does, especially if he's not hitting them

That's sort of the problem. He's a volume guy that's at his best when he's shooting a ton. This team doesn't need a volume shooter though.

Very true, but that also has to do with Jans. We know Hubb is a knock down shooter especially when he gets his feet set and is in a rhythm, Jans is going to have to reel him back on taking so many volume shots and have more set plays for him instead of crossing half court and pulling three's, that isnt working for him this year

This is one of the bad consequences of NIL as well. Hubbard has a big NIL deal and to his credit I think he's trying to prove he's worth it. Unfortunaly, that means point production which leads to jacking up ill advised shots. I love Hub but he took about 3 threes that were basically turnovers. Just terrible shots that had little to no chance of going in (and Jans let him know that). Just a working theory...
