Sunday Morning QB- We Are Who They Thought We Were Edition

    1. Little Wool is a seafood lover like myself. So we celebrated my big Friday win with another seafood feast this time with me doing the boiling. Live blue crabs, big Gulf Coast shrimp freshly brought in, corn, onions, small new potatoes, sausage....delicioso. Being King of the Hood feels great

    2. Well- we suck. There's nothing I can say here that all of you didnt witness last night. I wrote last week about my concern over the trenches. Well we saw it play out last night in real time. Our OL is not very good at all. Soft. We compound the problem by also being bad at RB.

    3. I didnt like the decision of having a 1st time DC with a new HC and was vocal about it. We saw that also play out last night. Honey Boo Boo rushed for damn 265 yards last night. We gave up a crazy amount of rushing yards. We are not good upfront combined with a sketchy scheme at best. How do you not load the box and force them into throwing? Their offensive plan was pretty obvious early on.

    4. This team is not getting to 6 wins. This team is not winning the Egg Bowl. This team is worse than last year's team. But they didnt quit last night. So there is your bright spot.

When your Safety is leading the team in tackling, its a pretty telling sign that your front 7 is not that great.

Linebacking core was non existent last night.

Bit of a hot take, our offense was worse than our defense yesterday. We expected a rough defense this year, and we all expected a high scoring game. I was of the opinion all week that if we score 30 plus which I figured we could be capable of doing last night we would win the ball game. The offense came up short of that with an awful first half to blame for it.

agree and it goes back to the text I got after one of the scrimmages- "offense will be decent. Defense will not"

We have a decent offense- not a good offense

I don’t think this is a buy in problem. I think this was just a talent and atrocious defensive game planning problem. Hopefully we beat Toledo. I’m only in my 20s and didn’t start following MSU football a lot until 09. I missed the atrocities of some of the other eras of MSU ball. You old-timers think we’re heading back there?

Poor linebacker play. Shitty scheme. Sun belt running backs. OL and DL not Sec players. Other than that we ok.

That our DC took until the 3rd quarter to figure out 3 or 4 in the box was a bad plan is concerning to say the least.
I was yelling it at the TV during the 2nd series.

Our DL looks small. Our OL as individuals look better than last year to me. As a unit not so much.

The questionable PI and stupid fumble turned out to be key.
Although if ASU had just never thrown the ball I don't think we'd have been within 20.
That was likely the 5th to 7th best team we'll play this year. Yikes.

No. Not if the rumor about us hitting the portal hard in the offseason is true that is. Which remains to be seen.

Also if Hutzler doesn't improve we will replace him.

We can rebuild pretty quickly because of the portal.

Not really. I've seen worse. Been a fan since the early 70s.

There were constraints on us in the past we could do nothing about.
With NIL, it's just whether our wealthy alumni want it bad enough and we hire competent coaches.

What concerns me about this team is the gauge I use to tell if we have a shot in a game.
If more than 6 or 7 of your 22 would start or play a lot for the opposing team, you at least have a shot.
QB and DTs can skew that a bit, but not much. I'm having trouble getting much above 5 for most of the games left.

My expectations going into this year was very iffy, more so now, but I think Lebby will learn from all this and will develop an offense. Question will be can we rebuild our defense. And find a kicker/punter!!

We lack talent. It is what it is at this point.

Our DC not being able to scheme better and make adjustments sooner is more concerning to me than that. Unless he shows otherwise, we have a DC who struggles to game plan against a 1 dimensional team.

Speaking of 1 dimensional, that?s us.
Not having a RB that picks up yards after contact is frustrating. It?s not quite Brandon Holloway bad, but it seemed like anytime our RBs got touched they were dead in their tracks. No forward falling or breaking tackles.

We have no talent but I am optimistic from what I see out of Lebby. Think if we can be patient with him he can build something. We all knew this rebuild was going to take time.

His goal this year should be establish the culture and from what I am seeing so far kids are buying in and playing their asses off for him. Did not quit and almost came back on the road.

Brandon was fast though. He was just misused. These guys are just slow and having a bad line doesn't help.

That is quite the hot take. Shapen has 2 50+ yard bombs incomplete due to WR/Refs. We will be okay on O

I sure am glad we dont get the ball out quickly to our RBs anymore. The play fakes to the RBs on 3rd and 22 are so much more fun to watch

You got to let it go man. This offensive scheme is light years better, it will be a couple years to get the roster where needed but it?s clear the scheme is sweet

Feels like we’ve thrown more good deep balls in 2 games than all last season

Because we have. We haven?t seen us stretch the field like this since Tommy Stevens (but Shapen is actually hitting those passes)

So odd for MSU football to have great skill players like Shapen, Coleman, Mosley, Craver, Traore, and a Safety like I Smith but lack so much in the trenches.
