Jack gohlke of Oakland
355 shots this season. 8 of the 355 were 2 point shots. He's made 131 shots this season. Of the 131 makes, 4 of them were from 2.
This is the craziest thing I've ever saw

That is one of the most bizarre stats I have ever seen in any sport.

I really don't like the way basketball has evolved but it's hard to argue with the math. What is funny to think about is how many kids playing video games probably figured out the strategy before the NBA and college caught on?
I can remember playing NBA Live (I think?) on freaking sega and pretty much everything was a dunk/layup or a three. Hell, even going back to NBA Jam, how many people did you ever see take a shot that wasn't a three or dunk.
I'm guessing the same can be said for a lot of football analytics. How many of us in NCAA football or Madden basically went for it on fourth unless it was 4th and long and/or failing guaranteed the other team points?
I guess it's a lot easier to experiment and figure out the optimal strategy when you don't have to worry about losing your job while you figure it out.

Very true on both.

Yet we can't find one Jabroni off the street to hit a damn 3

I mean, its not that crazy to me. This guy lives around the perimeter. He's constantly coming off screens and waiting for the kick out. He is the epitome of a role player. He knows his role and you know what you are getting with him.
I'd rather see him never take a 2 and make 40+ percent 3's than have a guy who is physically built to play inside 15 feet of the rim and he instead throws up five 3's a game maybe making one of them.

Can you name one other guy that shot 98% of his shots from 3? You can use college or pros any year.

Finding a Jabroni to hit a 3 is easy. Finding one that can hit a 3 and play SEC defense is harder. Not sure if it's as hard as we make it look, but I'm also not sure how effective some of these shooters with more limited athletic ability would be across a whole season against people more athletic than them. We remember the ones that get hot from 3 in the tourney, but how many of them go home in game one because they shoot 25% from 3 and that combined with their limited defense is a killer?
