I agree. Plus, will Bdork pull the trigger in two years if Jimbo is 8-4 both seasons?
Texas A&M is sleeping giant. Jimbo ain't waking it up.

While I don't think he's a "Championship" caliber type coach, I also don't think that one good QB gets you a Natty by himself ... He's far from a likable type for me but I will also give him a little more credit than most here
I agree. I think in the ACC or Pac 12 Jimbo could bottle a special season with an easy schedule and a great QB. The problem is that's not a common occurrence in the SEC. The other problem with Jimbo is that some of his highest rated kids tend to get into trouble. I.e. Jameis, Deandre Johnson, Malik Henry, Deondre Francois.
I think he's a good coach, but the hype he gets is unwarranted.
I still don?t get the sleeping giant talk. Hell sometimes you?re just a mediocre program.
There's apparently something wrong with the state of texas. UT and A&M both look like sleeping giants. They have a shit ton of money and a big state population to recruit from and dedicated/crazy fans. I thought Mack Brown was an extremely overrated coach, but looking back, I'm thinking maybe it was UT that was overrated the whole time and that neither UT nor A&M are the threats that they look like on paper.
ETA: As far as Jimbo Fisher being an 8-4 coach, I would say in the SEC West, at A&M, he's probably an 8-4 coach. He's going to be approximately tied for third fiddle with Auburn behind Bama and LSU unless and until there is a coaching shake-up. He's going to need an up year with a favorable east draw to get to 10-2. He's going to need a down year with an unfavorable east draw to drop to 6-6. Otherwise he's pretty consistently going to be 8-4, with some 9-3 and some 7-5 years mixed in, although I'm guessing more 9-3 years than 7-5 years.
I don't think he reaches the same level he reached with FSU. Between 2012 and 2014 they went 39-3 with three ACC titles and a national title. Granted, that was before Clemson became the Clemson we know now, but that's still a really special stretch he had in Tallahassee. Just can't see him ever doing anything close to that in the SEC West though.
Kinda think A&M is a case of "they are what they are". I doubt they'll ever really be bad with all of the resources they have, but I also have a hard time seeing a scenario where they can hang with the LSU's and Alabama's of the world on a consistent basis. I mean they are 2-14 against Bama and LSU since joining the SEC, and only 9-7 against State and Ole Miss.
I think A&M is about to find out whether they are really a blue blood or not. They're obviously going all in with the Bjork hire, and think they will get the kids glove treatment from the NCAA as far as cheating. I think that's a pretty good bet for them, but I think more b/c the NCAA is becoming more and more toothless than it is b/c the NCAA thinks A&M belongs with Bama and LSU.
Jimbo has 8 years left on his fully guaranteed $75,000,000 contract. If he goes 8-4 for the next three years, he will still have five years of guaranteed money left. Presumably, that will be north of $37.5M, which is 5 times the average yearly amount of the contract. Even for A&M, that's a lot of money to pay somebody not to coach. They paid Sumlin $10M to not coach (and that amount was not offset by other earnings), so they will pay. But $37.5M (especially if we see some continued fallout from COVID), is still a lot more than $10M. All that to say, A&M better hope Jimbo does better than 8-4 on average.
THe other crazy thing is that Jimbo doesn't have a buyout if he leaves. Not sure who is going to pay him $7.5M a year right now other than A&M, but if he kills it the next two years and Saban retires and Alabama wants to offer him $10M a year, he can walk for free. So basically he has an option to get paid $7.5M+ a year from A&M. Not sure how they structured his contract, but if they gave him 4% raises each year, that would mean he started off at around 5.96M in the first year and would be scheduled to get paid ~$9.25M his last year. Hopefully for A&M's sake they at least put a good escalator in there so they have him cheap early so that it will be harder for schools to poach him away later.
