This is like professional rasslin. Baby faces are turning to heels, and vice versa. Sometimes there is outside influence.
The current NIL is a joke and not what it's intent was. It's basically a if we want your current players we will contact them through back door sources to see if they want to get in the portal and come to our school. Used to be all we had to worry about was an OM money booster giving cash to a recruit to get him to go to OM. Those days are long gone.
And I dont want to see him go. I like him for the record.
I think in the right offense he could be. We just didn't get the ball to him enough in Leach's Air Raid. We wasted him.
Coaches leave for money. Facilities cost money. Players in HS sign where they get the most money, which you can't blame the impoverished kid for doing. Then, once in school, they can shop themselves around every year for more money. All that matters long term is money.
If OM can pay $6M more for its HC and also pay more for a DC than we offered Briles and also still be even/better to us in NIL, then how are we supposed to become a better program? We are over $6M behind them each year. Unless that changes, they will throw a hundred k at one of our players each year for the lulz, not even cause they want the player.
THAT SAID, players can now do what Kiffin, Briles, and every other coach does- shop themselves around to make the home team fork over money. Did Kiffin or Briles intend to leave? Probably not. And so it is with the Portal- half the time the player that's entering has no intention of actually leaving.
You know how you'll be at work training the new guy and you find out he's making a lot more than you? makes you want to ask for a raise doesn't it? And when the boss says no, you're going to apply to jobs. Well, the Portal is the equivalent of applying to jobs.
I can’t wait to see the black market portal 30 for 30
If he goes to a team where one of our former coaches landed, then that is on Arnett - not the NIL.
If he goes to UGA or Bama snags a huge deal, then nothing to be done.
