Because it doesn't look cool, but neither does chipped teeth.
Not trying to be critical, and who gives a shit what you look like when you are making catches. But when you lose or don't make the catch, it looks dumb.
It also help prevent concussions from the impact from the lower jaw up to the skull. It would be really easy for the refs or coaches to enforce the rule. IDK why they don't.
It makes it easier to breathe or gulp air when sprinting... I'll bet you won't catch a lineman not doing it

Same with knee pads, they don't even wear them anymore. Hell I once picked up a penalty at Meridian 15 years ago when I was an offensive lineman there for not wearing a butt pad.Quote:

Exactly. RaRa dropped a sure TD on a deep post with his mouth guard bouncing across his face mask every other step. That has to be distracting. If you don?t want to wear one, then just don?t have it dangling off your face mask.Quote:
