A highly rated HS player who was down the depth chart at P5 program? or A player who put up big numbers as a starter at a lower level of football in college?
Finally saw a local tv commercial as an example of how NIL is supposed to work, Reeds Dept Store. Mr Reed does the commentary while an OM baseball player and Jett Johnson model some clothes. NIL and the Portal are an unregulated fraud.

2) G5 All conference player that has 2 years or more of eligibility remaining
3) P5 player that has played well, but not a star, that has 2 years of eligibility remaining
4) P5 player that has one year left, but could be an impact player in right system
5) Solid G5 player with more than one year left, that will most likely provide depth
I think it's a gamble either way. I think at positions like QB or OL I want a guy who has been at the FBS level (G5 or P5). Offensive or defensive skill positions would be where I would be more willing to take a flyer on a guy who's produced at a lower level just because you recruit a bunch of players at those positions already so if your transfer struggles you have someone ready to replace him.Quote:

NIL is a joke. Most of the players getting NIL money deals aren't having any real commercials etc. using their NIL. It is basically just sign up and we give you money. I wish they would just stop playing games.
The problem everyone does on the topic is well that is free market just like you and me with our jobs. No it isn't. This was supposed to be amateur sports not professional. They are going to college to get a degree for real life afterwards. 99% never earn a living playing pro sports. They are also not grown up supporting theirselves like people in real world of work jobs. College is not a grown person's activity. They are not grown up yet so we got immarturity running amuck all over the place. Yeah lets throw millions at some kids and see how that turns out.
My job is that way. If people wanted to hire me, and they do hire me, they pay me a bunch of money to perform a service. It is good work if you can get it.
The bigger gamble is likely the guy from a lower level with a G5 guy being less risky than a FCS guy if I had to guess.
But both have value and both have risk. We could have one of each starting for us at outside WR in Freddie Roberson and Justin Robinson. I think both will work out well for us.

Thinking about this in terms of Soccer...
(1) Players should wear data vests
(2) There is already or could be Opta stats people compiling data on every player. Especially linemen.
(3) In soccer the scouts and Opta stats track aerial duels, one-on-one duels, tackles, etc
(4) The portal and NIL could a data bonaza job for geeks. The best geek might be worth more than Saban as a coach. Heresy- I know.
Soccer does this because 11 players have different roles. The old way of soccer scouting was to read newspapers about who scored the most goals in Germany or Brazil. That was a player to sign. Also, to sign the handsome kid that was on magazine covers.
Now soccer scouts look at heat maps of full-field-contribution, expected goals to opportunity, actual goals vs opportunity, and the various individual battles with the battles.
The players from a Nate Silver, Bayern Munich, or Brighton Hove Albion (Tiny recruiting budget relative Super Clubs) perspective are from Memphis, Houston, UCF, Fresno State, Wyoming, Utah State, and San Diego State. You want kids that could have completely changed their body and arc of development from when they were 17-year-old 2-Stars. Plus, you want to pluck silently from colleges that are not going to run-up the NIL competitive dollars. Small colleges are the new JUCOs. The new job of the Bagman is to tell Mom and Dad that an SEC-School will give their child a scholarship and extra dollars.
