Unless y’all are in the office and hear what’s going on you have no idea what you’re talking about.
To say recruiting is dead is just dumb. We are fixing to get one maybe two commits in the next two weeks.
You guys are delusional. We dont have a single 4star committed and have had 2 de commitments over this summer. I swear you all would be content if we filled those last 4-5 spots with 86 ranked guys. And please don?t reply with stars don?t matter or how all our guys are 4stars if they were committed somewhere else
There was a video posted I think it was on here where a coach sat down and discussed these rankings. Told personal stories of getting his recruits assigned 4 and 5 stars just to make the players happy.
Also, we had multiple 4 stars on the commit list, however after 24/7 added the ESPN recruiting rankings (ESPN has TWO recruiting analysts) they were all dropped to a 3 star.
Sky is not falling.
So was Nicholson indeed a business decision or did we just flat our get outrecruited on him despite the in-state advantage. Surely our business offerings match KY football - we're not talking Auburn or LSU here.
Again - he may prove to have zero natural feel for CB but it's a headscratching loss this early. This staff has done mostly well with Plan Bs except at DB. But right now I think we need to get a feel who might be impact players as there are some solid guys out there but nobody that just flashes right now. Of course you could say the same about guys like RaRa last year as I sure didn't think he'd be the freshman WR to crack the rotation first.
Stars don't matter, as the video that was posted really does point to the almost blatant politicization of recruiting. But, they do matter at the same token. Non of us think that Saban would be Saban without the recruiting classes that he brings in. I think he would be good, but, they would have like 4 less NC than they do right now.
I agree we need to be picky, we don't have a lot of room left, but, it is disconcerting seeing the "lower level" talent that we seem to be bringing in. It looks like we are really going to have to trust they our coaching staff can grade players better than the recruiting services. Which I would hedge a bet on that to some extent.
A couple of things to remember - High School season has started, so we are really down to kids that want official visits and "love" and want to play the recruiting game. If they are being recruited by multiple P5's right now they aren't committing until at least the early signing period. It is a naturally slow period and everyone else is the same way. Our last commit was 8/25. Bama hasn't had a commit since the end of July; Arkansas hasn't since 8/10; Auburn since 8/19; UF had 1 last week, but only 1 other since mid July; Georgia since 8/12; UK has had 2 since July; LSU none since July; Mizzou 3 since July; OM 2 since July; Sc 1 since July; UT 2 since July; A&M none since mid August; Vandy 2 since July
A few things
1. Comparing this recruiting class to Croom is just laughable. We basically have 16 kids committed. Out of those 16, 14 have either multiple SEC &/or at least 5 P5 offers. Let's stop with the hyperbole.
2. We are in a little bit of a lull in recruiting right now but that happens every single year during the season. Look back at the last 5 recruiting classes we've never had many commits happen during the season. '21 - 2 '20 - 1 '19 - 3 '18 - 3 '17 - 0.
3. This class isn't bad. What this class lacks is a headliner. We don't have crown jewel where we can beat our chest & say that's our guy. Will we get 1 by signing day who knows but that's what's missing in this class. It has several SEC caliber players in it.
4. Finally stars matter they always have & always will. It is somewhat a chicken & egg thing. Does a kid get stars based off his offers or does the kid get offers based off his stars? If Saban, Dabo, Kirby, & others are offering you then you should be rated high. They can get the best of the best in the country & they're after you so I'm fine with the "Bama Bump". If anyone has earned that it's Saban. The problem is after the top 100-200 or so kids it's all subjective & personal opinion. That's why the top rated kids are all pretty much the same across the board on every site but then the rest can vary so much based off which site likes which kid more.
This is just going to hurt us even more. So when Bama encourages kids to go into the portal - they will sign 32 four and five star kids, and then a year later encourage more kids to hit the portal and sign 32 more four and five star kids.
This only helps the elite. Sure it may help us some, but just because we can sign someone, doesn't always mean we should.
Yeah - but we don't push kids to the portal - and we still have the 85 number to deal with. If you bring in 32 kids in a year, that can hamstring you for the following year. It also go against who we are - a developmental program that can be successful at a high level if we recruit the right type of kid that can be an NFL player with development and time.
I think it helps a lot.
