Police: Man smoking pot in parking lot busted for drugs

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now)- Pearl police say they seized several pounds of marijuana after a Florida man was caught smoking the drug in a restaurant parking lot.

Matthew Leonard, 31, of Gainesville, FL has been charged with intent to deliver a controlled substance, according to Pearl police.

Police were reportedly called to O'Charley's to check out a report of a crime Tuesday afternoon. While in the parking lot, officers noticed a man in an SUV smoking marijuana.

The officers approached the vehicle and got permission to search, according to PPD.

Officers reportedly found several pounds of high-grade marijuana. Narcotics officers say the marijuana is an extremely potent variety that sells for as much as $4,000 a pound and they believe it was headed for the streets of Pearl.
