I’m just waiting on him to own up to bashing our defense and saying it would be horrible....
Not gonna hold my breath though. He won’t ever admit it. He’s always right in his mind.
I was on record as seriously questioning our defense due to depth (covid and injury worries), talent, new scheme, etc. I will admit they certainly played better than I expected. I was most impressed with the effort and the coaching on the defensive side. I agreed with coach34 that we would allow more than 30 ppg. LSU scored 34.
If the D continues to work and hustle like they did, good things are ahead. They are going to take some lumps at times, and I still think our depth is thin. But no defense is worth a crap giving 75% effort, and I thought we gave 100% effort. I still think our opposition will average more than 30 ppg.
Chizik and Harper gave our D a lot love last night. It's not going to be a bad D.
Well they did get a pick six and we had 4 turnovers. We were losing the field position battle all game. Our defensive numbers weren't great but you watch that game and they played well. I was very surprised and wrong about them. I think we kind of wrote off some guys like Kobe and Spencer making any sort of jump this deep into their career or Wheat and Davis doing anything right off the bat. If these guys are all the sudden impact players, we look way different on D.
We gave up 34 points, but the offense turned it over 4 times, including a pck 6.
I think the defense played great. I particularly was impressed with the goal line stand. On third down from inside the two, twice LSU decided they could not run it into the endzone and passed. Once it worked, the other time is did not.
The D is not getting enough credit because the offense's numbers are so gaudy.
Score really should have been more like 54-27. We made a LOT of mistakes that kept them in the game.
I thought the defense played great. I based my stance about us allowing more than 30 ppg on some of the things you mentioned. When you throw the ball a lot on O, pick 6's happen, sacks with fumbles happen, our O scoring quick happens. Also we might put up 60 on some team and the opposition scores a lot trying to keep up. Defenses don't operate in a vacuum. I think a Mike Leach offense hurts the defense a little (although we don't run tempo on O like many teams do now).
Our defense was impressive. I was VERY pleased. I also think LSU has many offensive problems they are trying to figure out. It's a long season, with lots of peaks and valleys. Time will tell. But I was very encouraged by our defensive effort and coaching. I still think our opponents will average at least 30 ppg.
I was impressed by our defense. We are going to be hard to scheme against this year because both our offense and defense are unique.
We had SEVEN sacks against LSU! The defense did what they were supposed to do and held our opponents to less points than we scored. I'm very pleased with the way our whole team responded yesterday.
Shit we spotted them their last 10 points in the 4th with the int and fumble. The D played great tho. Hell you can add the pick 6 in and say we spotted them 17.
With the exception of #13 Pruitt, there was focus and composure start to stop. Many things were ready to go bad, all that was needed was a lack of focus and composure to ignite the usual Bulldog meltdown. With the exception of Pruitt, that did not happen.
Don?t forget the goal line stand at the 2 that included a sack back to the 8 yd line that resulted in a FG instead of 7. Pretty impressed to say the least.
Thanks for the correction, if I am incorrect, a correction is needed. I still would like to state that there was remarkable focus and discipline against LSU. There just did not seem to be many distractions on the sideline like a bitching head coach or players having emotional break downs.
Our defense will only get better. We played a lot of people yesterday and there was little to no drop off with the effort and intensity. They'll continue to gain confidence and will improve the more.
That’s the point I tried to make earlier and was written off. We’ve recruited really well on the defensive side for a while. Young, yes. Inexperienced, yes. But they were rated well for a reason.
Why Coach34, Homedog and others choose to bash this team is beyond me.
Defense was better than expected because we generated pressure and tackled. I didn't give Moorhead enough credit. He was worse than I thought. I thought the defense would be up and down (more down). Surprised the hell out of me. I still think it'll be up and down but far less down and more up that I expected.
Offense was way ahead of where I thought. WR play was better. I thought we'd be good after a couple games but we were lights out game one. Protect the ball and that game was ugly. We'll see a lot of zone coverage going forward. But with Costello we should handle that. He's simply the most accurate passer we've ever had. Work out the snap issues and work on KJ not dropping the ball when he moves and we'll be hard to handle for teams not named AL.
Special teams were the best I've seen since Jackie. Not sure about Williams returning punts all the time but he's sure-handed so no big deal.
SEC looks wide open outside AL.
I posted on 9/5/29 in Depth chart page 2:
I agree and I don't think our defense will be terrible. Sure we got a lot of youngsters, but they're highly regarded youngsters, I think they will step up.
Kobe Jones was getting held all game or he would have had a huge day.
I just don't get the point. The whole fanbase is pumped after a really nice win. Rather than enjoy it, some wanna say look at what c34, homedawg, or whoever posted. Why aren't the ones doing this pointing out what they said to contradict c34, homedawg, or whoever? Oh yeah, bc they didn't say anything... and most never say anything other than so and so was wrong.
Peters needs to play the ball a little better with one arm before going for the pick. Furdge got beat a few times. At least we were in the vicinity of the LSU wide receivers. That shows we are well coached. I hope Forbes is drinking 3 protein shakes a day. Need him to grow up in a hurry.
Our run defense was encouraging.
You seem to be a reasonable guy so I want to explain this to you. And this is aimed at C34 mainly. It's ok to say you don't think we are going to be good. It's another thing to run our players down based on your opinion of their talent, especially before they have a chance to play. So if you are going to run your mouth on this forum that many of our players and recruits read, you should man up when it's due. Especially when you try to state it as fact. Especially when you are the one that questioned this hire from day 1. But hey, some guys just aren't man enough to do that.
