Sorry to start yet another Dudy-Noble topic, but I saw Todd went to the meeting in Jackson. Could you give us a brief rundown of what was said? I'm interested to hear your impression of what was said and see if you could pick up on anything Scott might be considering.
I think it was pretty much more of the same but with probably a smaller group. Reading between the lines, I think they are probably going to lean towards a new grandstand at the very least. But what surprised me was that the seemed to have the possibility of building an entirely new stadium on the table as well- and by new I mean a totally different location.
I'm glad Scott did these meetings- they were very well done a civil.
Building an entirely new stadium in a new location would be a great diversion to completely changing LFL. If it was a new stadium then nothing would be the same, and the owners of the trailers dont have "rights" to their spots they have had for thirty years.
Any ideas on where a new stadium would be located? we are kind of built-out in terms of space in the "athletics-part" of campus. the only way to build a brand new dudy-noble in that area would be to do away with some parking next to Sanderson and replace it where the stadium now resides.
Relocate it where the track, tennis courts, and softball stadium are. Convert old Dudy-Noble to a softball stadium with the new tennis courts right behind the stadium. Track, does anyone really care? I guess work a deal with Starkville High School.
I do wish they would just build a new stadium and keep LFL intact. I've always imagined how awesome it would be if we could have a MiLB style grandstand to go with LFL, and really, I don't see any reason why they couldn't/wouldn't do that.
There needs to be some reasonable give and take between the administration and the rig owners. The administration needs to realize that this is the most important and unique part of our entire sports history, so it absolutely must stay in some capacity. The LFL people need to be open and willing to change their rigs some to meet safety regulations or other standards that the athletic department may have, instead of freaking out every time anyone suggests improving the Lounge. The bottom line is both sides need to realize that this can work out great for everyone if we just cooperate and work together.
I don't see a complete relocation of Dudy Noble as a possibility. Why?? Cohen has already said that the location is perfect due to the Palmiero Center and the Templeton Center surrounding DNF. Plus, where would you put it that would really fulfill the needs of the program. There's just not any feasible land available to justify moving it completely.
I wouldn't mind seeing an entirely new stadium built, but I'd hate to see it moved from it's current site. Too many great memories from those hallowed grounds... Having said that, if we do tear down and rebuild, how do you do it and not interrupt your season? May be wrong, but the scale that we're talking about this time, I don't see how it can be done from June to Feb. and be completed.
There's a ton of land by the research park right off of 182.
This has been discussed before. Todd had a good idea- he said we could play a series in Jackson, a series in the new minor league stadium on the coast, a series in Memphis, and then maybe a road series or tournament somewhere. By the time SEC play rolls around, we should be able to have at least the bare necessities that we need to accommodate fans, a pressbox for radio, concessions set up, etc. We could build a little bit more at a time throughout the season, and finish the rest in the offseason. The first year would be sort of touch-and-go, but we could make it work. Alabama will play games in Birmingham in 2015 so they can work on their stadium, so it's not like this is an unusual or unreasonable request for our fans.Quote:

My impression based on what Cohen and Scott were saying is that if they build a brand new stadium, it wouldn't be far from where Dudy-Noble is now. The new Busch Stadium overlaps where the old one was- so I don't think it has to be a totally different spot.

It would require rebuilding the playing surface, but it would mean that the new grandstands could be substantially completed while only affecting right field and the first base side bleachers. The rest of the facility could continue to operate as normal. Of course, the people who sit in the grandstand would bitch about having to look into the sun.
The stadium in the image is the Mississippi Braves' field in Pearl. Someone asked last night to see what it would look like superimposed over DNF, so I just rotated that to make this.

They can build the grandstand area before the season- and complete the OF work after the season perhaps?

I remember watching a documentary several years ago about renovations being done at the Pentagon. Someone used the analogy that it was like trying to upgrade a TV set from black and white to color without turning it off.
It seems to me like most stadiums still have things that they are working on when they open- but they are intact for the most part.
A brand new ballpark can be built in about a year.
I would love to see a new park, but I've heard rumors saying the expansion to the north end zone at DWS has some money problems.
I don't think Stricklin would hire an architecture/design dream team that would make some MLB organizations jealous, and then publicly announce that we are going to have the best college baseball stadium in America if he wasn't absolutely sure we had the money to fund it. Seriously? Why the hell would you do that? That means there is a highway dividing the stadium from campus that would just screw everything up. For instance, during SBW you couldn't take in the game and then walk over to the scrimmage or vice versa. You would be forced to get in your car and drive over. Students would have to get in there car and drive to the stadium instead of walking over from the dorms, frats or after class. The players would have to get in their car and drive over for practice. Walkability and convenience to other baseball facilities are very important. The current location is great other than the lack of a 'main entry'Quote:

Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and I'm glad you voiced yours. I just agree to disagree with you. That's not dreaming "big" at all. It creates more problems than it solves. We aren't a pro team...we're a college team that is a part of the university. Moving to the north farm creates a disconnection between the stadium and campus that makes college sports so special. If it moved...the only place I could see it moving would be into the Sanderson parking lot. I just don't see that happening though. We have plenty of room to work right where it is.Quote:

Move it to where the soccer field is with home plate at the NW corner. It would be highly visible, close to existing parking and facilities, and it would require a minimum amount of inconvenience. They could throw up a new soccer "stadium" any number of places first and then break ground with business as usual at DNF until it is complete.
