Good MLB pitching coach fired today and is available.....

...Detroit Tigers's Chris Bosio was fired for some racially insensitive remark he made toward a team employee. Didn't say what it was, but appears it was not the "N" word or any other ethnic slur that would be considered horrendous. He was previously the Chicago Cubs pitching coach for about 6 years before his gig with Detroit. If another MLB team won't hire him, it might be worth interviewing him and vetting what he said in more detail. Sometimes teams overreact to in-the-heat-of-the-moment comments and with all the political correctness we have to deal with nowadays. If it was bad, then don't do it, but it might be something relatively minor. Never know.....unless you check it out.

Baseball is baseball, pitching is pitching, but handling amateurs and pros is different. I also cannot figure out why we?d invite that kind of scrutiny. We lost our last HC over a lack of impulse control, let?s make add another head case!

On top of that Bosio never played college baseball and has never been involved in the college game ever. And has never recruited before in his life.

Pit Bull nobody will satisfy some of these baseball gurus resume check box unless they are the one's presenting the idea or if Cohen just hires a random Bert Lemons from Indiana and then wahla he's suddenly a perfect candidate.

I'd be really disappointed i cohen and really question lemonis's long term prospects if he hired a guy just fired for racially insentive remarks even if it was not the N-word.

It wouldn't get 1 second of airtime on any network. Not even the SEC Network. Not even WCBI local channel 8 news would run that story. Nobody gives a flying **** about a fired MLB pitching coach and they give even less of a **** about a college baseball pitching coach getting hired. Only way that maybe possibly sees any air time on tv anywhere is if we hire Roger Clemens and that's still doubtful to be aired on even the Longhorn Network. It'd make it to an article online maybe.

Just like no one at ESPN mentions Luke Heimlich at Oregon State and his "controversial past"? ** The one second it would be mentioned is too much and completely unnecessary. And the fact that he essentially replaced the interim coach who led us to the CWS as the pitching coach wouldn't help matters either.


I'm not exactly sure why I'm bothering though. You think that we can plug someone in from MLB who hasn't been involved in the college game for 40 years and make it work...or even better it was your idea to hire Will Clark as our coach- a guy that hasn't coached beyond Giants spring training basically to sign autographs for Giants fans. And you're just going to incoherently argue just to argue to see how much gas you can put on your dumpster fire of baseball ideas. With maybe a couple of gifs thrown in.


Oh- and then there's the fact that there is no way in hell Bosio would take it anyway. Even after this incident I'm sure he can make a decent living giving pitching lessons and he'll probably try to work his way back into the pro game in a couple of years.

I doubt it'd be a big story, but I just don't want a guy fresh off getting fired for racially insensitive remarks, and making that hire would have me questioning the judgement of everyone from Lemonis all the way up the ladder to keenum.

Who knows what he said or why. Bottom line is we have to get someone that knows the college game inside and out and can get top prospects to campus for at least two or three years. That's it. And I doubt this guy is it, baggage or not.

As uninterested as this board is in Bosio, he would be that uninterested in our pitching job

Oregon State is playing on TV already Einstein and Heimlich is pitching. That's why they talked about it. They aren't showing us on TV again till next year. Your tiny non-existent window of TV airtime they might possibly bring up a former MLB's reason for firing will be 9 months old by the time our baseball team is on tv again and our new pitching coach trots out to change pitchers. There's your 5 second airtime possibility. 9 months from now.

Just to sum this thread up. Bosio is not going to be our pitching coach. Lemonis is responsible for wins and getting us to post season play. So, why don't we let him choose who he thinks can help him accomplish that and get us back to Omaha. How is Bosio's college recruiting skills, because that is a major factor, in addition to being a top college baseball pitching coach, concerning what Cohen and Lemonis are looking for. I can't see how Bosio would fit that criteria.

Eh...that doesn't really dismantle his story. Not to defend him because I don't know what was said or meant by it BUT in a team setting it wouldn't be uncommon for coaches to refer to a player by a nickname and it not be used to their face. And he could have been telling someone how he looked like a "spider monkey" and then just described what happened by sayin it was like a nickname.

I do not find it hard to believe that an MLB coach would make insensitive comments...I just think it adds to the notion of folks being overly sensitive and wanting to be offended.

Now if he was being obviously racist and mean spirited in that...he got what he deserved. But how sensitive do you hafta be not to get fired? Does insensitive equal racist? I've been around a ton of insensitive jokes that were funny as hell that had nothing to do with race?? So I guess I just don't understand the description of the comments that were a firable offense.

Racial slurs don't offend white people the same way they do minorities. That's just the truth of it and it's probably scientifically provable.
