I don't think it's illegal to have a gun in an airport, at least not in MS. It may be against the airports rules, but not illegal.
I know when I was leaving on my honeymoon and forgot to get my hunting knife out of my bag the TSA agent in Memphis damn near did everything but call SWAT. She was on full fledged power trip waving the knife in my face talking about how prohibited it is. Finally got a supervisor to talk to that let me explain what happened and I was just trying to go on my honeymoon and not trying to go all Aloha snackbar on the flight.

TSA is as useless as tits on a bull. They are comprised mostly of individuals who were at the bottom of the job pool that couldn't get hired for anything else. They miss 95% of anything illegal or prohibited that's moving through their theatrical security line.
