That will cost them some money. NCAA appeasement attempt perhaps?
That was my initial thought too but I think when it gets down to the nut cutting, the COI doesn't care anything about that. It's the UNM way of saying "Hey, we did this and did that. Go easy on us." The COI is then going to ask what not playing Dixie has to do with academic fraud.
They have horrible flashbacks of me when they hear it, so they decided to stop remembering getting wooped all those years ago.
Every other school stopped playing it years ago.
Why have a press release? Why not just drop it and move on?
I'm expecting a statue of a tranny or yancy to be erected soon for more ncaa favor
Calvin Candi is NOT happy!

What game is the Klan rally scheduled for?
Maybe this is a part of the "Exemplary Cooperation" with the N̶A̶A̶C̶P̶ NCAA
LOL....I didn't even know those glory hole loving pricks still played that shit. Oh well they still have their confederate "rebel pride" flags hanging on their walls out of public view until you see one of their players on Twitter smoking weed with it displayed in the background.
COI: Since your written response, what measures or self-imposed penalties have you put in place that foster an environment of compliance?
UNM: We've ordered our band to quit playing Dixie.

If this were at Mississippi State the first question Dan Mullen would receive in his next press conference would be about this just to stir the pot.
I'll bet that doesn't happen in Oxford.
This was done for recruiting and that's it.
Bjork say..."Look away!"
They get rid of Colonel Reb, then they stop playing "Dixie", the moniker of "Ole Miss" will be next. You can bank on that. Then once the NCAA gets through with them, they'll be nothing more than a bad reputation and a punchline.
Didn't their website use to have a page explaining what the term "ole miss" meant? I think when c34 was around he had a screenshot of it
Anybody notice UNM made a big deal of inviting to a practice the kids of those folks who died in the plane crash?
My first thought was, it was a cool gesture. But when I clicked the link to read it, it became clear they made damn sure local TV was there, as well as a photographer whose online portfolio consists of 99% South Panola HS stuff, with nothing from any OM practices or games the past several years.
In other words, it's abundantly clear to me the photographer was invited specifically for this event, where she took tons of pics of the kids having fun with the players, and of course, Hugh himself. Interviews were given, etc, etc.
To me, if it had been done without seeking publicity, I'd have been impressed. But the way it was done looks as much about getting positive PR than it is doing something nice for the kids.
NCAA?
Who gets tasked with deciding which racist traditions to keep and which ones to discard?
staying and then ran away like a fat kid playing dodge ball......
Does "Rebel the Black Bear" fear for his name and need a good lawyer for an official name change? Notice they give up their symbols of their past a little at a time do avoid offending older fans. Ole Miss and Rebels are next. On the Ole South plantations, the plantation owner's wife was called the "Ole Miss". The female children were called the "Young Misses". The term "Ole Miss" has little to nothing to do with the state of Ms. or the river. I guess they can visit another part of their past and be "The University of Mississippi Flood", an older name like when we were the "Maroons".
what should they replace it with?
