Would like to know who you guys think was the best player to play at State by jersey #. Let's start with numbers 1-10.
#7 = nick turner
Ok, maybe not. He is the 7 in msstate7 though. I created this handle first on genespage while I was a student. I was a huge turner fan, but he never panned out
Eric Moulds. The end.
#1 - Moulds
#2 - Smoot
#3 - Dontae
#4 - No one coming to mind off the top of my head
#5 - Eric Daniels
#6 - See #4
#7 - Ditto #s 4 & 6
#8 - Kelvin Love
#9 - Madkin
#10 - Ray-Ray Bivins***
#4 - Jameon or maybe Tony Burks
#6 - Dylan Favre ha
I think Kevin Dockery was #4.
#5 hmm.. Was Eric Brown cinco?
4 - Mitchell
6 - Malcolm Johnson
7 - Henig
Eric brown was 18 I believe
Good topic. Stealing from everybody else's answers, I think the current list is (with locks in bold):
#1 - Moulds
#2 - Smoot
#3 - Dontae
#4 - Jameon Lewis/Charles Mitchell
#5 - Eric Daniels
#6 - Malcolm Johnson
#7 - Nick Turner
#8 - Kelvin Love
#9 - Madkin
#10 - Ray-Ray Bivins
I've never been one to pay much attention to numbers so I can't really help fill it in.
#8
Glen Young
endzone to endzone
Hail State!
1 - Moulds/Cooper
2 - Smoot/Ed Smith
3 - Pegues
4 - Charles Mitchell
5 - Nikoe Whitley
6 - Malcolm Johnson
7 - Matt Wyatt
8 -Justin Jenkins/Izell McGill
9 - Darius Slay
10 - Cam Lawrence
Some really good answers in this thread. Can't believe I didn't think of Pegues, Mitchell, MoJo, Wyatt, Justin Jenkins, Slay, and Lawrence. BulldogBear gets credit for a strong throwback with Glen Young.
1. Eric Moulds
2. Fred Smoot
3. Derek Pegues
4. Lawrence Roberts
5. Nickoe Whitley
6. Rafael Palmeiro
7. Jefferey Rea
8. Justin Jenkins
9. Wayne Madkin
10. Ray Ray Bivens
Think that's moot because Wyatt goes in over both of them, so:
#1 - Moulds
#2 - Smoot
#3 - Pegues
#4 - Charles Mitchell
#5 - Nikoe Whitley/Eric Daniels (Eric Daniels was before my time I guess; not sure who should get this one)
#6 - Malcolm Johnson
#7 - Matt Wyatt
#8 - Justin Jenkins/Kelvin Love/Izell McGill
#9 - Madkin/Slay (not sure on this one; obviously slay was a better player, but we basically got a year and a half out of him, with even his best year basically wasted by our DC)
#10 - Cam Lawrence
What number was Quintin Culberson?
It's a shame Ashley Cooper wore #1. Wish he made this list, but he can't top moulds
2. Walt Harris (Started the tradition of #2 at DB)
Artie Cosby also wore #2
1 Has to be Moulds, honorable mention to Chad Bumphis and Ashley Cooper, soon Bear Wilson may bypass both
2 Has to be Smoot, although Walt Harris gets honorable mentions
3 Goes to Derek Pigues, sorry Dontae
4 Goes to Charles Mitchell, honorable mention Kevin Dockery
5 Goes to Nickoe Whitley
6 Goes to Brandon McRae
7 Goes to Matt Wyatt
8 Goes to Kelvin Love
9 Should go to Wayne Madkin
10 Goes to Cam Lawrence, I guess. Couldn't think of anyone. I had Tim Nelson, but I don't think that's right. Could be Ray Ray from Gautier
11 Goes to Scott Westerfield
12 Goes to Kevin Prentiss, honorable mention Jerious Norwood and Dicenzo Miller
13 Goes to Robert Bean/Johnthan Banks
14 Goes to Omarr Conner
15 Goes to Don Smith
16 Goes to FANT
17 Tyler Russell
18 Brandon Hill/Marcus Washington???
19 Tee Milons (HA!)
20 Michael Gholar??
It's hard for me to remember some of these numbers.
1-Moulds
2-Smoot
3-Dontae (fresh and soph years)
4-Jameon Lewis
5-Nickoe Whitley
6-Anthony Derricks
7-Nick Turner (good suggestion)
8-Fred Ross
9-Slay
10- Rob Morgan
So, are we moving on to 11-20?
Was Frankie Luster #4
What about Kelvin Knight for #5
The only ones I'd quibble with are:
Brandon McRae. Maybe if he had been on a better team with a better QB, but I'd give Malcolm Johnson the nod over him.
Kelvin Love. I remember Justin Jenkins more, so I assume he was better. Mostly I remember Kelvin Love for throwing him a bunch of jump balls that he couldn't come down with. But I really don't remember paying attention to either enough to know which one is better or which one had better stats.
Robert Bean. I know Bean was good and he and Smoot were a great tandem, but was he as good as Banks?
I'm on the fence with:
Madkin. He was winningest QB at MSU when he finished, played in a SEC CG, and also had a good three year stretch, but he was still almost a game manager. Slay was obviously NFL talent, but we spent a year with him playing special teams and even when he started Wilson's scheme didn't take advantage of having him and Banks opposite of each other. Not sure he should be docked because we got so little out of him. Tough call.
Kevin Prentiss. He was electric and I wish we could see him in today's spread offenses. I think he'd put up gaudy numbers. But Norwood you can say the same about Norwood. Both are way up there on my list of favorite players. Another tough one.
What number was Bond?
I love Robert Bean more than most- but #13 will always be Bond- John Bond
Don Smith WAS 15 as was Sleepy- but Dakota has stolen that now forever
