What did y'all think of the first episode? I thought it was a strong start.
I thought it was pretty good. The reviews for this season have been mixed, but I enjoyed the first episode. It's not as gripping as the first season, at least not yet. Seems like this season they have a larger cast, maybe because no two characters can carry the show by themselves like McConaughey and Harrelson could. May not affect the quality, but I'm interested to see how these characters interact. I'm rambling. A- so far
Solid first episode. I think Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have the potential to be pretty strong characters. Not sure how I feel about Rachel McAdams yet. Going to try and stay away from comparing it to season 1.
Decent start, we'll see what happens. So many freaking cops in this season. I'd like more involvement from Kelly Reilly and Rachel McAdams. I have no idea what the point of Taylor Kitsch's character is. He's in it for 5 minutes and all they tell us is he's got military baggage, I'm assuming PTSD, and wants to kill himself. There's just no one I'm really compelled to root for or against so far. Honestly, I thought the most interesting character of all was Kelly Reilly as Vince Vaughn's wife.
Episode 1 was strong.
Episode 2 was awful
What? Episode 2 we see the killer and have the possibility that we've just lost a major character (I think he's still alive tho) plus we find out Vince has been robbed and he's quickly sunken back into his gangster ways in order to get his money back. This season looks like it will climax better than last year's. Not saying it will be better because that's almost impossible but the writing may very well be better.
I watched the first one and then called and cancelled my cable today. I wouldn't have done that during GoT, Silicon Valley, etc...
Hulu, Netflix, and streaming via XBox is it for me. That and an HD antenna.
Saw Episode 1. It was OK.
Started Episode 2 drunk. Couldn't do it. Tried again sober. Still couldn't do it.
Season 2 sucks.
Episode 3 was pretty empty. I'm keeping my faith that this season is building to something good, but I haven't seen it yet. Definitely not as engaging as season 1, and its not just the characters and their development.
The storyline so far sux even. Big disappointment so far.
Vince Vaughan has been the only interesting thing of the show so far to me. I like Colin but his character isn't that interesting to me. I keep thinking maybe they will have something interesting happen but it just seems like they are dragging it out.
Yea Vince is carrying the show right now. Lots of bad side characters in this like the Lieutenant lady who talks but it just sounds like mumbling and the drunk police chief and the mumbling big fat Mexican with gold teeth that Vince beats the shit out of. Three characters that can't pronounce words very well. Then you add the drugged out Mayor's wife who can't speak well and you've got three episodes of mumbling bad english by half the characters. The show would be much improved if they had done a better job of picking side characters.
Mixed feelings so far. Love Vince Vaughn in his role, but I'm uncertain about everyone else. Everyone knew it would be hard to live up to Season 1 though. I think this season has some potential, but the storyline really needs to develop quickly over the next 2 episodes, IMO.
Much better episode tonight. It seems we are now in the shit, so hopefully the second half of the season will make up for the slow start to the first.
I've enjoyed this season much more than most others have apparently. Farrell and Vaughn have both been really good. The story is really picking up. I think I was one of the only viewers who understood that you had to completely flush season 1 out of your memory in regards to your expectations for season 2. Harrellson and McCaugnehey (sp?) put together one of the best acting jobs I've ever seen. You'll be hard pressed to find that again anywhere. When you look at what season 2 is doing its still good tv and better than 99% of what's out there.
I knew going in it would be impossible to judge based on season 1, but that's not why I've been underwhelmed so far. The pace of the story has been very slow and disjointed. As someone else point out earlier, several of the secondary characters have been pretty lame. I do really like VV's and Farrell's characters.
Ok this show is the shit again, I am officially hooked. It helped watching episode 3 twice. Vince Vaughn is killing it!
And the show went back to really slow. With the amount of episodes left, I don't know if they can bring it back up to speed. It better have something more than powerful people screwing prostitutes.
I thought it was a great episode. After the way the last one finished with a bang, this one had to reset the table for the last few episodes. Now we know it's the son that is running the hooker stuff. Uni that's gonna tie in to who is pulling Vaughn's character back on the street. There's a potentially beautiful dynamic forming that directly opposes season 1. In season 1, the good guys won. In season 2, it's looking like the bad guy might win. Season 1 had viewers rooting for good and 2 has viewers rooting for bad.
I am just afraid that the show will be about Casper was used to squeeze Vince out and the whole point was rich people screw hookers. There has to be another twist or that premise is the same as about 10 movies in the last few years. I like the acting by Vaughn and Ferrel and McAdams has something boiling really close to being good.
I think Colin is going to end up being the actual father and somehow ends up with the $5 mill in cash that will get split between his son, Taylor Kirtsch and Rachel McAdams. I think the Mexicans have the hard drive and it'll end up costing Vaughn his life trying to get it from them. Hope he takes out the Mayor and his son first though.
I had trouble staying awake during this weeks episode honestly. Correct me if I am wrong, but season 1 was only 8 episodes right? Lots of story lines that seem like they need more time to develop & be wrapped up. With only 3 episodes remaining, I have a feeling I'm going to be disappointed in the end. These last 3 episodes still have tons of potential though. We'll see.
I agree with a lot needing to be wrapped up. The story has been so slow in developing with this many people, I am afraid it is going to be rushed and disappointing. For this season to be even comparable to last, they are going to have to pull something out of their ass that is completely unexpected.
I'm not counting on anything mind blowing. Last season was pretty cut and dry. Bad guy kidnaps young girls and murders them. I think we'll see a couple of deaths this year though but the ending won't be anything like a twist. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't ever find out who the masked shooter was either.
I think its set up to be epic. Or really shitty.
What did y'all think of the last nights episode? Thought it was definitely the pivotal moment, setting up for a really good ending. Also, is it confirmed that there is only 8 episodes?
Definitely picked up. I am anxious for the last 2 episodes. It is either going to be good or bad. Hopefully it ends strong.
Lot of people liked this last episode but I thought it was weak. Party scene was just bad detective work but all the side nudity was cool haha.
I think it says something about this season that I thought it was halfway decent episode. It is horrible to just sit around waiting for something to happen. The whole big deal going down while the two cops happen to be outside the window kind of pissed me off. That is just some idiot writing like they were backed into a corner. If this ends as Vince Vaughn waking from a dream before he has a meeting with Casper I won't watch another season. For the most part this season has been a waste of time. Colin and Vince have done a pretty good acting job but the story has sucked.
I keep thinking this over and over again in my head. The acting has been good but the general story line sucks and the development and delivery has been bad. This week's episode was alright, and like Tbone said, that shows just how poor this season really has been. The party scene had tons of potential and was a let down.
Basically an "Eyes Wide Shut" rip off...

I was thinking the same thing, even if it was less surreal and eerie. (And generally less interesting.)
Anyone else getting shades of Twin Peaks here and there? Like the dream sequence at the opening of an episode a couple of weeks back, for instance, and then the torture cabin in the woods, and the underground, high class prostitute ring, and the potentially shady land deal. The tones, styles, and plots of the shows are obviously very, very different. But as the weeks have gone on, I've seen it pop up again and again. (Then again, I may just be seeing what I want to see given how dull this season has been.)
