MLB.com 100 draft prospects

Jacob Lindgren checks in at #41 and Chase Vallot is at #50. Those are second round grades.

Chris Ellis of Ole Miss checks in at #72, and they had a couple of their recruits on the list- Foster Griffen at #37 and Ti'Quan Forbes at #51.

Tyler Beede despite his struggles is still in the top 10.

Aaron Nola of LSU is rated in the top six and is a candidate to be the top overall pick taken, but the Astros are more than likely going to take someone like Brady Aiken or Carlos Rodon.

Touki Touissant is rated at #16 overall. Dylan Cease is rated 68th, but I think he goes to school because he has an elbow injury.

Arkansas pitcher Chris Oliver is at #40, AJ Reed of Kentucky is at 48, Bobby Bradley from Harrison Central and a LSU commit is at #60, Spencer Turnbull from Alabama by way of Madison Central is at 62, Brett Graves a pitcher from Mizzou is at 74 despite pitching for the worst team in the NCAA, Daniel Mengdon a pitcher from Texas A&M is at 85, catcher Grayson Greiner from South Carolina is at 88, and Joey Pankake of South Carolina is at 94.

Unless I'm missing someone, that's 10 of the top 100 from the SEC. And then several others that are committed to SEC schools. That's why the SEC is the best in the country in baseball.

This should give everyone a good idea of who we have to worry about as far as the draft- although I'd keep an eye on Dale Burdick, Jesse McCord, and Cole Gordon.

Man, I'd love to have Vallot here- although I'm not holding my breath. Also, keep an eye on Woodruff. I'm not expecting him back either way, but if I was in his shoes, I'd come back for one full healthy season to increase my draft stock.

Forbes at 51 is somewhat surprising, considering he was as high as a top 20 prospect a few months ago.

Woodruff and holder. Both likely not back. Woodruff, is maybe a wildcard, but he was a 5th rd pick out of hs. He has something and his stock to improve, so maybe. Holder, doesn't have anything to prove, and honestly isn't going to improve his stock. Sure, he could add a third pitch, but his cb isnt going to get better and his fb isn't going to gain significant velo. He can't come back. He's been a stud for us and thanks for 3 great years.

The fact that Lindgren is a relief only guy hurts his draft stock. If he could start- he probably would be a first round pick. It is what it is, but he would help everyone including himself if he could be a starting pitcher.

Pitching is also really deep in this draft. They are saying that possibly 12 of the first 15 picks could be pitchers.

One thing that we have in our favor with Vallot is that there are several catchers in the draft that will probably be easier to sign and are rated higher. That's not saying that our chances are good.

Forbes is raw and athletes from Mississippi don't have a great track record other than a few exceptions such as Billy Hamilton. See Ryan Bolden, Arturo McDowell, and etc. He needs to go somewhere that is going to be patient with him.

I think the jury is still out on Woodruff. If he can finish strong including the postseason, he could certainly increase his stock. If he pulls off a Chad Girodo like postseason, I think he is definitely gone. He's pretty close to being 100% right now. If he comes back another year he could possibly make himself a slam dunk first round pick.

With Holder, I think it's just whatever he wants to do. He'll probably leave if I had to guess. Same thing with Wes Rea if he continues to hit like he has lately. I could see someone taking Pirtle and Armstrong because of his speed.

As someone who knows Holder, I'd be shocked if he didn't come back. His parents are the kind of people who would scoff at him leaving school before getting a degree even if that means he signed an MLB contract (wasn't offered one out of high school).

Zero chance he leaves this off season. Unless he absolutely tells his parents to shove it, which I can't see him doing.

He wasn't drafted out of high school and didn't get an offer to play at his 1st choice (USM). He's playing with house money right now. Expect him back.

That's great news. I can't believe USM didn't even offer him? That's pretty shocking to me because he was a well known prospect in high school.

The slot value for pick 50 is 1,100,300 for those who are curious. A team can certainly still sign a guy over slot without penalty as long as they don't exceed their allotment for the top 10 rounds, and of course they can sign a player for less than the slot.

After pick 56, the slot values dip under 1 million dollars.

Also worth noting- because the Cubs and Rangers spent more than 15% over their allotments last year they are being penalized and they can not sign a player for more than 250K. So, if one of those teams draft one of our recruits, it may bode well for us. Or it may mean that they think that they can sign a player easily.

Yeah, he straight up told me he wanted to go to USM. I think his family all went there. I don't know. You've got to remember where he's from and where USM's program was at the time compared to everyone else too.

He was good in high school, but I didn't expect him to be as good as he is. And I didn't expect him to be a pitcher.

I also thought the same thing about Gentry. The whole story involving him being offered a scholarship but then having to walk on at State (not really a difference $$$ wise) still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. And I've seen enough GHS students flame out once the hype wears off. Just another reason not to subscribe to stars and shit.

Ok, I'll give you 20%. If he gets an offer he can't refuse and whichever team offers him a significant amount of their allotted money I could see him going, but 1) I'm telling you... That degree. I know MSU has made strides in doing continued educations for professional athletes in the last 5 years and that's the only reason I'll give it a chance of happening. 2) his draft stock won't drop far if at all even if he has an average campaign in 2015. He can only improve his stock. At this point I wouldn't write him off as leaving just yet.

I think Holder will be worse if he comes back next year. With the balls changing

it will only hurt Holder. Those big breaking balls won't break quite so much next year.

I don't think he ends up as a closer in the minors, and I think someone in single a is going to spend a lot of time trying to get his fastball to the mid-90's and adding a pitch. If he can do that, and that's a lot to do, I think he ends up as a specialist in the majors. That 12-6 does wonders against guys in college but a lot of those swing-and-a-misses would be dug out of the dirt and hit into the stands at the next level.

I think they tried to add velocity to Holder's fastball in the Cape Cod League and what they ended up doing was straightening out his fastball. Butch told him to go back to what he was doing before and it has worked out a lot better.

I don't think you will get much of an argument about him not being very toned. That's why he is Kenny F***ing Holder. If the show is any indication- steroids might be an option down the road.**
