I trust coach
this move tells me a few things:
1) they didn't want to bump everyone up one day on short rest. We will have to do that next week anyway because our Georgia series is Thu-Fri-Sat. They didn't want to bump Valincius and Stone up on short rest two weeks in a row
2) they want Charlie Foster to figure it out. They see the potential. If we could get him confident and throwing well, it could be huge for us in May and June, especially if this issue with Mac lingers or recurs.
3) they aren't making a huge rotation shift. They are simply replacing McPherson as the Friday night guy. That tells me that they don't think he is out long. If they were expecting 8 weeks, they would probably do something different. This is further indication that they expect Mac back sooner rather than later.
Makes sense
It's Foster, Valincius, then Stone. Everyone stays in the same slot. Foster simply replaces the injured McPherson.
If it was not for us having a Thursday, Friday, Saturday series next weekend then we would probably go ahead and move everyone up a day this weekend.
Makes a ton of sense. This is a win/win. He either finds his stuff and we have a chance to sweep or he doesn't and we are ahead of them on pitching going into game 2-3. Moving our current lineup up a day increases our chance of losing 2-3 greatly.
I prefer this to moving everyone up. We should have an advantage with Tico vs most everyone else’s Saturday guy and I like our chances with Stone + our offense vs. everyone else’s Sunday guy.
ETA: The fly in the ointment is getting into a situation where we burn a lot of the pen on Friday.
If foster doesn?t have it and can?t get through 2 innings what do we do? Don?t need Friday and Sunday to be all bullpen days
Each guy who threw on tuesday will be available for an inning or two. the confeds big swingers might look silly swing at parker rhodes pitches
Was hoping we would go Pitzer. Foster is not going to work well against OM because he gives up too many walks. Foster will turn solo HRs into 3 run shots because of his free base runners. OM almost totally depends on the HR to score.
The worst case would be Foster struggles and leaves in the second inning. We finish with the pen. Then Valincius somehow has a bad outing and only goes 3 innings. Then life gets tough. We need Valincius to go 6 or 7 in game 2.
Baptize in Fire for Foster. He can't jump into the portal in July and say MSU and Oak did not give him a chance.
He's shit the bed in Hattiesburg as a starter twice now and freaked-out at-home versus marginal D1 northeast schools, the lad is due a good start. I bet he goes 3 shutout innings.
I have a feeling that we're only expecting Foster to go 2 innings and they're probably hoping for 3. So, either way we look at it tomorrow is a bullpen game really no matter what Foster does.
But yeah- I agree if Valinicius can give us a strong outing then we can probably use our better bullpen arms on Friday and Sunday. Stone typically goes about 4 innings himself so we'll need to throw some guys that day too.
Playing Grambling on Tuesday is a blessing for our pitching staff.
Foster's problem is when something doesn't go right he thinks about it too much and can't focus on getting the next guy out whether it's fault or not.
Honestly, when no one gets on he has been pretty good at times. But a walk, error or a hit usually ends up leading to at least a 3 run inning for the opponent.
probably the move i would make. although that doesn't necessarily mean i think it will work. but this staff saw what foster is capable of in the fall. thats how he originally won the job. they've also seen what/any adjustments he's made. roll with it. could blow up could lead to something outstanding. worked out well enough tuesday night.
I am cool with it. Foster was the Sunday starter before the season started. He is very talented and let?s be hopeful that he can find something on Friday to get him back on track
Well, it's not a lack of talent issue so thats the biggest thing. Will he find it tonight? Tune in at 6 to see
Yea, I'm sure OM having issues with lefties is a big reason to give Foster the start. Biggest worry with Foster is not getting hit but all the runners he puts on with walks and hit batters and the damage that does if OM hits a bomb behind that. Solo HRs dont get you beat. Grand slams and 3 run homers do though.
Left Handed staff after Valincius and Kirk
A) Foster
B) Burns
C) Miller
D) Bauer
Foster is the most experienced and Burns has not started a game, that I can recall. Losing Kirk hurts because he was the most SEC ready with Valincius not factored
i zero confidence in Foster until he proves himself zero.
Well Tico is the only LHP we have that you can have any confidence in currently. Miller gives up a HR every 10 batters. Burns is a match-up guy right now. Bauer had a good outing Tuesday to lower his ERA to 13.50
If Burns and Foster don't show us something in the next 3 months. The LSU thing to do is upgrade in the Portal. Need a JP France type dude. That was a great transfer. Starter, Reliever, Clutch, Regionals, and Omaha. Make up so good, became a Major Leaguer.
Just beat the rock senseless and pitching becomes much less of a discussion point.
