Let see what happens.
With oak's postgame comments about Woodson and Raymond's antics today, I doubt either of those two start tomorrow.
We are going to have to make a decision on infield D vs offense at some point
I think our fans have a higher opinion of Wyers than the coaches do.
He's solid, but it took him 5 games to get in the game (he went 4-4) and hasn't done much other than 1 AB since then.
Woodson is the SS.
Nobody is disputing your post. But what we see with our eyes is that while Woodson has great hands- his is not a SS. He is a 3B. His range is literally Westburg. Wyers is a legit SS- but he wont hit like Woodson. That is the fight BOC fights daily
Woodson has to hit better than 261 to justify his defense. At 6-4, he could be another 1B since Reece is locked in at 3B. February in the season is too late for a position change.
Woodson seems to be getting hotter, so it's a funny time to pull him. But SS defense is something key to achieving big things.
Gatlin Sanders got most of the time at back up SS in the spring. I would not be surprised if that's who BOC rolls with if Woodson needs a day off. Wyers is mostly going to be at 2B although yes, he played SS at Bryant and I think we will see Wyers play more when we are facing a LHP.
Woodson has made some mistakes but his first weekend was pretty rough at the plate and he has gotten his average up to .261 in a week and overall his defense has been adequate and he has made some nice plays at SS. It's also really his first time starting in college so he is making a little more of an adjustment coming in from a different program plus having a lot of expectations placed on him. I think he will be fine once he gets settled in.
Yeah. The ball doesn't carry very well at Dudy Noble in February. And the two players that pimped home runs are both playing at MSU for the first time.
And to be honest I was very pleased with the number of home runs we hit today. That bodes very well for the future. We should have guys that hit at least five home runs or more from each position group.
I missed it, what did he do.
This Dallas series is great test. If dudes wig out and make big Es then changes will happen. Normal business.
If Woodson starts to mash, it will change the equation
Last year, Cupp was supposed to be Ozzy with the Glove and ok with bat. Turned out to be Buckner Glove and Mendoza bat.
Sanders can probably hit 320, plus glove, but limited mash.
I feel that at this point there are maybe 2 or 3 positions that are settled. Every other position is still up for grabs and won’t be settled until after the trip to Arlington. I think we are beginning to see a little more clarity but the day to day lineup isn’t settled yet.
I see optionality versus "settled" as BOC's goal.
Versus Arizona State next Friday, MSU will face a 6-5 230 LHP with team USA pedigree and high draft prospects.
MSU can put 7 to 8 experienced right-handed bats on him. Sully, Chance, Vystas, Woodson, Frei, James/Milewski, and Bevis. Assuming Ace and Teel are nailed starters.
Shitty Lefty on the Bump today for Delaware. 7 RHH in the lineup.
The biggest I think is figuring out whether our third starter is Stone or Foster.
Need to get Milewski going again. But Ramond and James are able to do the job.
We'll platoon first and second base with Bevis/Stallman and Frei/Wyers
I think Ace and Woodson pretty much have 3B and SS settled. Gat may play some SS if Woodson struggles some but all in all I think Ryder has been OK.
We have four outfielders with Chance, Teel, Nunnalee, and Vytas. And then we'll see if Parker can factor in...maybe Mershon some too.
Noah is the DH and has that locked down pretty much.
It looks like our bullpen roles are getting settled too. Webb at closer, Davis as relief ace, Sweeney in long relief. I'm sure we'll see Pitzer coming out of the bullpen soon as well. And Gleason has been very good. Would like to see Dane Burns step up. And then of course we have our freshman unicorns and I think there is a very good chance 1-2 of them factors in later in the year out of the bullpen.
Charlie struggled again today.
