He shuts down in the fourth. Just not a winner.
It's not time, yet... when OM stamps their playoff ticket on Lebby's 4-8 season, it's time
It doesn't matter. The winning days of this program are behind. No one is going to give us a second thought.
I do not like being doormat of the SEC. Where every SEC comes to our house and wipes their feet on us!
I believe tonight was the last chance at winning a game to inspire the team. They almost quit early in this game. It's over.
His Fing RPO with a QB who decision making process and lead feet just plain sucks. "Coach Lebby why did we try 4 straight passes, Well thats what the QB saw on his reads so its his fault". But the last play call in regulation was the correct call and I love It. This is what crap he about to shove down our throats. I hope some reporter calls BS on him.
This is going to be a blood bath in coaching this year. If we fire Lebby this season we will not wind up with a good coach. Too many open seats.
I am just about off the Lebby train. I got one foot off but I still think he should get one more year.
the offense in OT had no heart and was totally mailed in, they have quit on Lebby. Bet against us from here on out, unless the gamblers are paying a lot we are not going to be competitive rest of the year
Go throw the kitchen sink at James Franklin. He's the best we can get with everything else open this year. No one else is gonna take him.
My 2 year old son walked up to me after the game tonight while I was crying and asked “what’s wrong dada” i realized then that I need to alter the future generations sport fandom for my family. I have now entered the transfer portal. May god be with you all.
He's the James Franklin for shitty teams........
There is improvement. I can see it but we have some questionable play calling and more importantly some boneheaded players making stupid ****ing decisions.
We could do worse than Lebby. Everyone is all fired up to get rid of him and we wind up with Chris Wilson as head coach bc he is the only one that wants the job.
Two 17n weeks in a row. Run the ball to the middle of the field and kick the 17n FG. WTF? I don?t. Know what to say. WTF?
I was born and raised a state fan. 35 years, but I remember so many Saturday’s ruined. I do remember the good ones, which were made special by So many bad ones. Just have to know when to quit ya know? I don’t expect sympathy and oddly enough am looking forward to state basketball and baseball, but football is long gone for now. May just freelance and be a fan of the day. Not sure, but the past two saturdays have broke my spirit… really every loss this year has been gut wrenching (was at the UTenn game and had a blast).
Why? Specifics please. Not platitudes and comments like ?you can?t fire a coach after only 2 years when we have had so many coaches over the last 7 years? Bullshit. Lebby should have never been hired, just like Arnept should not have been hired, just like Moorhead should have never been hired, just like Croom should have never been hired, just like Felker should have never been hired.
Just about? ???? Two weeks in a row. He Fn played to lose. Shapen is a good team second string. I am done. He is not a winner.
Look. We are at the point. Either let Shapen work for nothing or let KT work for the future? Shapen shit the bed multiple times the last two weeks.
Shapen threw for 381 with 4 TDs and no interceptions tonight. Blaming this on him is not correct. This is all on Lebby.
Going for it on your own 36 when you are up 10 and their offense is non existent is indefensible. If we simply punt the ball away Texas does not have enough time to make a comeback. It's that simple. Lebby has tanked our last 2 games with his play calls. It is 100% on him and he keeps defending these decisions.
I'll go against the grain. I don't think we should fire Lebby and I don't say that just because "others are hiring". Fact is, Lebby inherited an absolute crapshow (no talent, no coherent roster construction, huge NIL disadvantage, zero identity/pride/motivation) and has managed to get a roster both talented and balanced enough to have us 7-1 this year. His offense works, only games it's failed was because of Shapen missing wide open guys. Now if the team quits on him sure that'll change things, but after a 2-10 year he still got them to fight hard for him going into this year, and after the Florida game he still got them to show up for Texas. All signs point to him being fine at motivating and focusing the team.
NOW, yes his game management is absolutely god awful. If this was his 5th season, I'd say we can fire him over it. But he's midway through his 2nd season as a HC. What exactly do we think "learning on the job" looks like if not this? Now some of you will go "we shouldn't hire anyone that needs to 'learn on the job'!" but the fact is we did, and once that happens you have to give them a chance to figure it out. And let's be honest- if we do fire Lebby -be it this season or 10 years from now- you know damn well they'll go cheap and hire another inexperienced coach that will have the same growing pains, so we might as well see if Lebby fixes his own mistakes this off season.
Lebby gets the credit for creating a team that could be 7-1 right now, and he should get blame for loosing us 2. But I see a lot of people take it for granted that our team has talent and a good scheme in the first place. He should get the chance to fix his own in game management.
At both the college and NFL level, I see veteran DCs lose games by calling "prevent defense", I see veteran offensive coaches lose games by going conservative too early, I see experienced coaches make the wrong personnel decisions because they got tricked by practice performance, I see veteran players make mistakes in the heat of a play. Unlike those situations, Lebby can at least say he's new to actually having to make HC decisions
Lebby certainly sucks at an extremely important part of the game. If it's not fixed next year, he should be fired. I'm just saying he should have the chance to recognize and fix the issue first because he's very good at a lot of other parts of his job
Jimbo as HC and Lebby owning the offense? Sure. But if Jimbo is HC then it's Jimbos offense, and we'd suck on that side of the ball.
You're taking for granted that Lebby brought in real talent and has them in a good scheme. It's not like the only thing Lebby does is game management
No because again it is about optics. After what we have been through with Leach passing away and then Arnett firing a coach after two years while showing improvement is not a good thing to sell to potential coaching candidates. It just isn't. You may not like it and that's not excusing Lebby but firing him now isn't what is best for MSU football.
Look, it's just like we could have fired Lemonis after 2023 and ended up with Justin Haire or we decided to wait and let Lemonis have a fair chance to turn it around and ended up with Brian O'Connor. Which way was best for MSU baseball?
We do need stability and big picture here- there is going to be a lot of coaching turnover in the SEC this year. We know that- Florida and Arkansas are already open. And who knows? Auburn, maybe Ole Miss if Kiffin leaves, Kentucky, maybe Texas is Sark goes to the Titans. Meanwhile we will be in year three of Lebby next year with an easier SEC schedule. And if Lebby can't get it done by then honestly I think there are going to be some pretty good coaches out there we could get. I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with someone like Petrino if Lebby doesn't work out. Who knows?
So what's best for MSU long term? To go knee jerk and end up with some coordinator again and hope we find Dan- a route that has literally only worked once in five tries in my lifetime?
No- the best thing to do is buy more players next year and see what happens. If it doesn't work out pull the plug. If it does work out- great.
You're presenting a false choice. I already posted a thread of 15 head coaches (not coordinators) who would likely take our job and aren't going to be chosen by Florida, Penn State, LSU, etc. A few of them might go to Virginia Tech or UCLA or wherever, but we could absolutely 100% hire someone off this list:

Lebby is currently 6-14 as our head coach. Every single name on that list would have at least a couple more wins, if not like 4 more, even with the same NIL $$ investment that Lebby got.
