Heard this morning on sports radio he is rumored to have thrown his hat into the Penn State ring.
If this has legs it could get interesting about the time we play them.

lots of coaches will want it. Big Ten is partnering with an investment firm to infuse cash into the conference. They have turned into a progressive bunch the last 5 years or so
To get the job, he has to win. More likely he runs it up on us than the team lays down
Have yall watched them play this year? Bama is the only team with a pulse that they've played. They'll be lucky to beat us...I don't see them having any chance at "running it up" on us
We've played one sec road game this season and lost by 23. You guys seem to trick yourselves into thinking we're good before every game. We're a 9.5 pt dog facing a lame duck coach this week. Missouri is much better than Florida
ETA... they faced someone on our level already, South Carolina. And while the final score was only 9 pts different, they physically dominated that game...
Total yards - 456 to 293, mizzou
Rushing yards - 285 to -9, Mizzou
They're #1 in the sec (6th nationally) in rushing, and we're 15th in the sec (101st nationally) in rush defense. This is as bad a matchup for us as you can come up with. It's gonna be demoralizing how they run over us
I would think the majority of mid level program coaches would show interest in Penn State. It is one of the 5 best jobs in the Big 10. Also, the investment firm the BIG10 is partnering with is another motivating factor. Drinkowitz runs a really good offense and Penn State fans are tired of not having an OL or enough offensive creativity to beat OSU, Michigan and Oregon. I could see this possibly being a good fit for all parties.
Exactly. We are MILES better than last year but miles better still means we are a bottom half team in the league. It means we now can compete with the top half and pick off some wins against the bottom half but we still have a good ways to go. Mizzou is a top half of the league team. They have an incredible rushing attack and are pretty balanced. People are unfairly judging them on the game against Bama because they are still holding FSU against Bama.
Mizzou will be a 2 TD favorite over us. If you asked me right now, it is 31-10 Mizzou. Outside of the UGA game last year, we have scored 5 TDs in our other 4 road conference games in the Lebby era. We have to show we can be competent on offense in road games before I will ever pick us to win a road conference game.
Yeah, Mizzou looks alot better than us right now. We're staring 0-8 in the SEC again straight in the face. Could we grab a couple- like this one Sat? Sure. But we are just as likely to go winless again
Drink may get an offer from "Flarda" also
He's probably going to tell them no. He has no reason to go there. OM can pay whatever FL can and he has unlimited autonomy at OM that he would not have at Florida. Also, he's shown he can win in Oxford just as easily as he could in Gainesville. NIL and the portal changed the game. You don't have to be at a traditional power or a traditional fertile recruiting ground. Transfers want to come play for programs that they can put up numbers and Lane has shown players can come there and do exactly that.
It's not like he has to go to Florida to work with DJ Lagway. He can just get him out of the portal. Hell he could get Florida's best players and bring them to Oxford.
LOL!
Can nobody on this board play along?
Absolutely no one on NAFOOM or Spirit would be defending one of our coaches no matter how much it was the truth. Remember they have Not A Fan sending Lebby to every open job right now bc he just hates Starkville and knows this program is nothing but crap. No one on their boards is giving Lebby any props for what he has done in year two.
I say Kiffin is going to Florida bc it makes them squirm like jilted little school girls. It makes them wait with bated breath bc this could be the rumor that happens to be true.
Everyone should be telling any ole miss fan they know - Well you know Lane is probably going Florida - just to watch that look they get when they realize it could be true.
**** them.
Drink would be good. If they land anyone other than Rhule, Cig or Drink, boosters will likely be upset. Kiffen ain't leaving Oxford until his kid finishes HS.
He's got it made in Oxford, plus his son is a 10th grader in HS there. In Oxford, everyone is pulling in the same direction and bought in. At OM he can put up 8-4s the next three seasons and still have a job. Plus in Oxford, he's bigger than the program, that's likely important to an egomaniac like him.
UF, firing coaches so quickly, has likely lessened their appeal.
Easy. It's much easier to make the playoffs at Florida. Ole Miss you almost have to be perfect because of the weak schedule. Florida- not to much.
Plus if he wants to send his kid to IMG or somewhere like that it benefits his son more than playing at Oxford HS.
Personally, I don't think Ole Miss could get into a bidding war with Ole Miss without it starting to effect their NIL.
They can get into a bidding war, win it, and it will not affect one damn thing. Dickie Scruggs, David Nutt, Jerry Hollingsworth, John Black, and Bill Jordan will go as high as Keith needs them to go. They are 100% bought in for Kiffin. They will find the money. Florida is not that bought in.
Also, how is it much easier to make it at Florida? I mean if it was so easy to win at Florida, why did Ron Zook fail? Why did Will Muschamp fail? Why did Jim McElwain fail? Why did Dan Mullen ultimately fail? Why did Napier fail? It is not easier to win there. Their boosters are batshit crazy and think it is still 1996 and they are the only team that runs a spread offense.
Both schools are in the SEC and there are no divisions. Some of you are still operating like this is 2005. HS recruiting does not really matter, paying players is completely legal, and OM is a hell of a lot more consistent than Florida has been in the last 15 years. Outside of the Mullen years, Florida has been two steps below mediocre. Hell outside of those 3 years you could argue Florida is a bottom 3rd team in the SEC in the last 15 years. That is just not as attractive a job as it was 15 years ago, especially in the NIL era.
That's not what I'm talking about. I'm not talking about the pressures of the job...is there ANYTHING about om that makes it easier to win there vs UF...the answer is there's not! These coaches don't look at things the way we think they do. Job security is usually less of a factor than you think it is. Ability to win big is a lot bigger factor
But again, with the way he recruits the portal at OM, and with a built in structure and a school that has given him EVERYTHING, it is easier to win at OM right now. Just is. But if you want me to nail it down to one thing, it is this: OM will give him everything and ask for nothing on his end. Florida will give him 50% of what he asks for and make him jump through 9 hoops and appease Steve Spurrier in the process. Also at OM, he knows who holds the purse strings, Keith. At Florida it depends which hour of the day it is. So to sum it up, the structure is FAR BETTER at Ole Miss. Hell the structure is better at Mississippi State than it is Florida.
What makes it easier to win at Florida though? 15 years ago you could say they play in an easier division, better HS recruiting ground, more recent success. What can you say now? Lane hates developing players, which is why he prefers the portal, there are no divisions anymore, and OM has more recent sustained success.
Why would I do that? Or care? Lane has had the better team than us every year and has never blown us out and we should have beaten them at least 1 more time. Lane just does not scare me.
Also, James Franklin is getting that job so it is a moot point. They will have Franklin wrapped up before the end of the regular season out of all likelihood. The boosters who want him are already selling the job he did at Vandy and how they know he can win in this conference. There is some belief he will bring some Penn St players with him as well.
And despite that- Spurrier and Urban Meyer won National Championships. Some of those failed coaches you mentioned- including McElwain and Dan won SEC East Championships there. So, let's say our job is comparable to Ole Miss in accomplishments the past 25 years or so. Dan won more games more easily at Florida than he did here. It would be the same if Kiffin took over. Zook and Muschamp failed because no one wanted to replace Spurrier and Meyer there. Napier failed because Scott Stricklin is their athletic director for some reason.
Don't forget that Florida completely waxed Ole Miss last year in Gainesville.
The reality is this rumor is floating out there because Lane is looking. I have no doubt about that. He hasn't come out and refuted it or said he isn't interested- yet.
