So many familiar names with great posts have disappeared recently. What is going on or not going on here?
probably just being careful...........probably more important issues to deal with
The board seems pretty active to me.
Compare it to the new ON3 (Sixpack) with number of threads and posts to these threads, especially regarding football. This site blows up for baseball. Anyone heard from Commercecomet lately? Loved his insight along with several others who have been MIA. I have started a few threads here recently, regarding football, that got five stars, with information I read on Sixpack(far more comments). or free info from 24/7 (genespage) that appeared days earlier than here.
We've lost a lot of good posters over the years. Some of it has to do with the downward trend of football. Some of it has to do with NIL and people just getting out on sports. Some don't want to only read about baseball, which is what this board turned into from February to around 3 weeks ago.
I mean I can't think of the last time I've seen a post from Kurt Rambis, Ari Gold, IYOK, Dawg61(although he got banned), Barkman Turner Overdrive, ShotgunDawg(who's Colonel Kang on other boards), etc.
ED was my go to for entertainment but really the rumors/tea/inside scoop some had. I get not wanting to post stuff that could come back to you, but that?s why I liked this board. Some seemed to have inside knowledge, or were very good pretending to.
Just went to On3 and a couple of familiar names are posting there now. Also, quickly saw and read the titles of at least 30 interesting football threads before I quit counting. I don't know how to do it, but the new uniform video of a player in tomorrow's uniform in DWS from Hail State is also posted there. This site is dead compared to them regarding football. JMO.
This board has been baseball heavy since day 1 - which was actually what has always made it different then SixPack.
Personally, I think that after 5 years of constant arguing about Leach/Rogers/Arnett/Lebby/RTDFB/Air Raid etc. or Lemonis that people got tired and turned away.
I think something that has really hurt ED is that the founders and moderators seem to have moved on. Look down at the bottom of the main page under moderators and you'll see outside of Scooba hardly any of them are still active. Hack and Cadaver pop by on occasion. Mods are supposed to help drive conversation - which is why DawgStudent, Hadad and their mods start about 75% of the posts on SixPack. That's not a knock, but it's how you drive engagement. They also now have a huge advantage with the On3 and Rivals merger being tied to national networks.
I've always preferred this board. I lurked on SPS for years, but ED was the first time I ever really got engaged and began posting.
The board has certainly fell off from where it was. It's still where I go for state stuff, but I find myself here less and less.
Glad you're back! Find some other well known ED posters lost in the wilderness with a love for our football program, especially in football season. Hail State in ALL sports and ALL ways. Heck, I would watch State play a tiddly winks game if we had that "sport", especially if we were playing OM!
BTW, can I get 5 stars for the creation and discussion thus far for this thread?***** Seriously, this has been my go to site since 2014, but getting more info from other free sites recently.
The ban happy mods don’t help. This board is the suck now for the most part
Hey man. At least you weren't on here calling for political violence with no information, just assumptions, and now looking like a dumbass with egg on your face when yet again it's the same people time and time again. That's also worth a 30 day ban.
Is what it is. ED thinks of posts in terms of quality and SPS goes for quantity. Regardless - both skew heavy on the 40+ male demographic. We aren't attracting younger generations onto posting on these boards who would drum up engagement. SPS had an eye opening thread a while ago how literally 95% of their board was 30+.
Which yea - when your primary poster is some wannabe tough guy who makes shitty nicknames, has dumbass takes when he branches outside of football, has mediocre takes inside of football... doesn't really inspire people to join/stay.
Steve trying to take that role away has been a good change. If you want a broader audience - do things to attract a broader audience.
Guys,
I dont know how much I want to get into but I'll go.
1) The board badly needs to be updated...it lacks many features and makes a lot of things hard to do.
2) Some people dont like me because im the active bad cop and feel they have been treated unfairly. Nope, you can ask Coach34 i dont play favorites. I dont censure one way or another, it might appear that way because the great majority of anything political comes from the right side.
I dont care who the poster is, not many usernames stick out to me over the years because I read everything on this board and dont have time to focus on who is hot or cold on our wide receivers this week.
3) Im not going to dox myself or go too deep but Im too busy trying to find a real job to put more into the site at this time. Its been a rough year plus now.
Ill truly admit my posting has gone down over the years since leaving Mississippi and not having resources like I used to.
I am fairly new here, but appreciate you running a free forum. It gives us a platform to pretend to be experts on, have heated debates and share special moments like last Saturday night on.
My household is not near as passionate about Miss State football as I am, but ED gives me a place to vent and cheer with like minded people during and after the games.
Thanks again,
I think the last few years plus NIL has taken a lot of the passion for sports out of folks. I know that I am less gung ho and my group text with my friends has been less about football than it used to.
I personally love reading the Sunday Morning QB and the discussion. My wife always asks me to read it to her now. I think a lot of the recruiting news that this site used to have during the off season just doesn't move the needle the way it used to also.
Not sure if this has any bearing on what the reason is for folks becoming disinterested but we know most of the baseball and basketball players..... as for football, I no longer know the team/players - it's a different team roster every year and it's hard to get excited sometimes. I saw where Beastman commented the other day and it had been a while. Jack Lambert, shotgun are also guys I see only occasionally now but we also have new posters stepping up..... after starting 4-0 maybe we'll see some repatriation
Thanks Scooba for your efforts on the board. This is one of the main places I go for MSU discussion.
Agree with lots of posters on reasons.
1) Loss of college sports interest due to NIL, transfer, etc.
2) MSU football and sports low points lately - hopefully on the uptick with football, baseball and basketball all getting back to competing with the best.
3) Political temperature and sensitivity to too much. I don't understand why people can't have an opinion and yet disagree respectfully?
4) Related to above, some don't allow discussion of anything. Can critique our team, game, or player without some getting bent out of shape.
5) The Leach experiment really divided the fan base. No discussion allowed.
I'm still here but have lost interest to all reasons above. I left Gene's page due to soft posters who couldn't take any discussion except sunshine and rainbows.
I used to belong to SP or whatever it is now but dam having to sith through OT threads about what is the best barbq sauce or other crap got old. What I like here was and still is this is a sports board and it was designed with the outdoor forum and the BS forum, which I do use alot. I don't care what your politics are, take it to the other boards and have fun going after each other but not on the SPORTS forum. And thanks to Scoob for trying his best to keep it that way. And also for getting rid of a bunch of Trolls. But I do miss Rocketdog, Jack Lambert and all the other old Jarhead posters.
Well I will admit one thing and I am guilty as hell about doing it but the weather threads are not only useful but may save lives with all the members here who live in nader alley. There are a few weather geeks on here besides SVD who monitor the radars during bad weather events in the state and we post updates on here. I know that what these posters do is well appreciated by our members.
How is one supposed to post on the new Sixpack? I've got a registered account, but every time I try to post, it wants me to buy an On3 subscription to be allowed to post. 17 that.
Not to pile on, but, I noticed it awhile back and almost made a thread on it. I assumed the response would be well go somewhere else, so what's the point. I joined sps in 04 and here when it started. I was never one to choose sides, which many did. I would always check both sites daily multiple times a day. There for awhile, ED had more info than SPS. Not so much anymore, here to say its ok to go to both boards. I've done it the entire time. I do post quite a bit more on the pack.
ETA: I've never joined any pay sites, I've gotten all my info from here and SPS.
Just an example of the engagement of both boards. ED prediction thread - 3 replies. SPS prediction thread - 50 replies.
Ok, I'm done comparing, I just encourage those that don't know, the pack is lively, jump in on both.
Football engagement has dropped off a cliff the last 2 years.
