Surprisingly, B12 was undefeated, I believe. Even UCF beat Bama.
That puts 9 SEC teams in the Final 48. Winners today solidify a trip to the Final 32
2 games with walk offs or otherwise 7-4, and against weaker conference teams. A really thin line in stating anything good.
Half our fans are crying in the club because more SEC teams didn’t lose so they could find something else to gripe about with Lemo. If we make it to a super and beat Arky they’ll be clamoring that Arky isn’t actually as good as advertised and DVH is ELITE for making the post season all the time and never winning.
Dang man you nailed it! It happens with every sport and I don't understand it at all! It's hard to win in the sec and incredibly hard to win in the postseason. If you've ever played or coached at a high level you understand how hard it is and every win is a good win, there are no bad ones!
Great post! I can't give you anymore rep!
Let me get this straight with you, 34, and Brobi.
So my post on here saying there is a thin line this post season with 9-2 and 7-4, somehow means something other than just that?
I actually love college baseball more than any sport. I am just not an SEC homer when it comes to this game. I love a good game no matter the conference, and I really do not cheer for the SEC. I just want good baseball.
What did I post on here that had anything to say other than that?
Not really talking about you, my man. You’re just a pessimist. Your view stays the same. Other people change it to pick problems where there aren’t any. You’re needed for balance. I respect your opinion. You’re always happy when we win. A lot of people seem more upset that we have done well this year than if we had just been bad.
No I am the guy that says it is competitive beyond the SEC. You ok with that chief?
6 walk offs yesterday, not just by SEC teams. The most competitive first day in NCAA regionals I think ever since the format started.
The complexion of today could totally be another theme just as easily.
It is how I got to be in the top 1%, being pragmatic and a realist, so it is in my dna.
I am a fan, but not really an SEC homer fan. I just love college baseball more than anything else.
I have been to other regionals in seasons when we are not in it. Just a fan of the sport.
Not talking about you. Did you not read my post? I said it happens in every sport and I guess if you do this for all our sports then maybe I was talking about you. If I was talking about you I would've addressed your post. This board in general goes overboard in giving credit to other teams but not us. In every sport. Little overly sensitive.
ETA i generally like your posts, so this was nothing personal with you just to the board in general.
The only thing I have really been vocal about in baseball is the argument that we should tamper expectations based on the last 20 years. I think that is BS, and as a person that also played some baseball, you start every season wanting to win every game, including the last. I hated losing, and never did I think ...."well my school historically is not this good, so we are doing alright".
That is the only thing that has been irritating.
Totally. Like I said, your opinion balances out those who wear maroon colored glasses. You’re also not wrong. Our game with St John’s yesterday served to prove your point. These are supposed to be the 64 best teams in the country. We play to find out how much difference there is between 1-64. You don’t just comment when we lose. Some of our posters are closet LSU and Reb-shark fans. That being said, I do think the SEC teams do have more top-to-bottom talent than most other leagues.
I am glad we won, but for me I am in regional mode, where I am already on to the next game today. Win or lose, until we are eliminated.
SEC does have a ton of MLB level talent.
These lesser conference league champs can play on day 1 with their aces. That to me has stood out.
It really seems college baseball has outgrown this format. We could have hosted, and there were some good teams left out of the field also.
To me- 9-2 shows the power of the conference. With the G1 win- that moves 9 SEC teams into the Final 48 teams left in the Tourney. 2 walkoffs you say? Shows the depth and toughness the SEC has by handling business when the game is on the line. LSU's dudes won the game for them yesterday when the game was on the line. Last night? Our dudes won the game when it was on the line- Purdue, Davis, and Jordan. That's what SEC teams do that others around the country cant.
I agree with most of this. But, as one of the folks who has said "tamper expectations" - my argument was not about our history, it was about what is going on with MiLB and the make up of college rosters. You even allude to it in your other post in this thread about not being an SEc homer and watching what is going on around the country. The game is getting deeper in talent all around, and so we have to change our mindsets about the whole "we're MSU and shouldn't lose to so and so". Doesn't mean I don't want to beat those teams or don't have expectations for us to beat them - we just have to recognize there are fewer and fewer auto wins on the board then even 5 years ago.
This is correct. Everyone has pitchers who throw
Mid 90s now and guys that can rake. Heck go watch a juco game and theirs flamethrowers and bangers there too. Trickle down from minors and reduced draft rounds. Different era now, it's not the 80s and 90s where we could stockpile talent. Also with nil you now have to take a year to year approach as opposed to developing players.
I think you extended my simple comments to something further.
We are trending in the wrong direction though, and I don't see a HC for us that can evaluate and provide the charisma/attitude that gives us the advantage in recruiting baseball players. You cannot be CEO, in a college game that is the competitive.
I don't gripe when we lose competitive games. The past 3 seasons including this performance in the regional is what has me seeing enough.
I disagree a little, but not completely. P5 is taking all the top lower level talent in the portal. Not many great players are slipping through the cracks anymore. Weve missed on every top target in the portal but have hit on a few lesser guys. Were failing to sign top guys in the portal and aren't recruiting well at the HS level AT ALL. The total lack of development is a major red flag.
Look at our catching situation. There's a failure in the portal. People complain about Larry but we didn't recruit over him. The biggest thing that hurts us in the portal is depth. No stick on the bench anymore and no options if someone struggles.
Arkansas eliminated at home... without reaching the finals. oof
