10-run ruled our ass.

Cohen lost to Mainieri and goes into a funk that puts the whole team into a malaise with all the negative energy. I felt like we were done. He let's Mainieri and Sullivan get in his head.

On to the real tournament!

This poor showing has more to do with our inability to get to balls on the infield specifically SS and 2nd base positions. The left side of our infield is just terrible accounting for half of our 11 errors this weekend. We didn't even pitch our best bullpen pitcher. If we pitch Rigby instead of putting Paul Young in, he keeps them at 5 and this is a different game. Putting in Paul Young at the spot we did signaled to me that we didn't give a shit and conceded the game.

We desperately need a bad ass SS. Gridley to me is just an average SS. He isn't bad but he isn't really close to being an all SEC type. The 2013 team had an incredible interior infield with Frasier and Pirtle. Gridley and Holland aren't near that ability at all. With that said, I think this team can get to Omaha but it will be two and que because I don't think Gridley is the answer at SS long term and teams will just single us to death yet again there. All I have to say for next year though is someone better beat out Gridley at SS next year or we will have similar problems up the middle.
