Do you know where Jared Benko is now? Auburn. You know why? Because he sucked as an AD. Selmon is miles better than the other candidates trying to get the job at the time. You are right about one thing though, it is on Keenum. He needs to stop meddling in athletics because he sucks at it. At least Boyce knows what he is doing at OM. He inputs where needed but lets Keith run the show.

Another thing, what has Selmon done to make some of you think he is not a strong AD? You wanted the script State? He gave it to you. You wanted LED lights? He gave it to you? You wanted him to pull the plug on Arnett? He gave it to you. The only thing he did not do was fire Lemonis in 23 after he had been on the job for less than 4 months. He was not going to make his first act as AD to be fire the only coach to ever win a national championship.

Selmon gets caught in the crossfire a lot for being the guy trying to put the fire out. I think we can all agree that Selmon didn’t start the fire. Some of the board isn’t confident he can put it out though. I actually like him. He’s younger, seems highly intelligent, and has a great personality for the media. What more could you ask?

State will improve when Keenum is gone. His youngest kids are sophomores I believe.

I think a lot of folks just wanted to avoid another HC change and hoped some new assistant would breathe some life back into the program. It's clear to see that Lemonis is just blah, and that blahness permeates into everything within the program, given enough time.

Yall can get off this "we've got talent" shit because we don't. Have you seen our pitching? We've got a couple guys and that's it. We don't have a catcher at all, got a Couple G level guys starting in that lineup too. We don't develop talent under this staff and haven't signed much. Portal guys are always better than what we've got in our lineup. This staff sucks! They'll fight you for a seat at Rick's but they don't do much else.

There is nothing wrong with our AD. Doing a solid job.

Now it looks like he has to hire a new baseball coach. So we shall see how he does there this summer

My contention has always been whether he deserved the job or not. He deserved last season because he won our only Natty in school history and he responded. He has not responded this season. He's not getting the job done. Now it's time for him to go barring some crazy streak that is very unlikely to happen

There is one common denominator in all of those years. Chris Lemonis. We can go around and around about our talent, assistants, portal misses, etc. All that falls at the feet of Chris Lemonis and it is why he will be fired.

Lemonis tries too hard to appease fans. Whatever we complain about the most, he focuses all his effort on that one thing in the offseason. Everything else is essentially ignored. That's why it's a different thing (or multiple different things) every year.

You may know more on that than me, but I follow Ga Southern due to friends there and as a second school to watch. The alumni I know there were thrilled with him and really liked him.
Benko was going to Auburn to add something under his belt and secure with a larger school, from what I heard.

My points were very clear. That nothing against Selmon, but as an SEC school, why did we hire someone with zero AD experience. I get we hired a guy with lots of upside, and high ceiling. But my comment was just about as an SEC school , questioning Keenum's decision making, plain and simple.

Edit: I agree , or we agree, that Keenum needs to stop meddling. He really should focus on the academics of MSU. I agree with another comment you made, that he is driving up the entries of students who will not make it after the first year. From what I have read, an ACT score below 24 is the indicator.

When y'all say the 2025 hitting is good, do you mean batting average wise overall? Does your stat line include situational hitting? Over 60 HRs and over half of them are solo. Is that "clutch" hitting? Struck out 15 times last night against midweek pitching

22- We aren't firing a coach one year removed from a NC. You know that. Especially after Cohen got to come back after 2015. I thought we should've fired Foxhall then but he was the National Assistant of the year the year before. So not surprised we didn't fire him then.

23- firing him this year would have looked almost as bad as 2022 through the lens of a baseball coach. If we had fired him at this time we're probably talking about how we should have given Chris more time and how could we hire a risk like Will Coggin? If you are a head coaching candidate and you saw our team ERA that year you would wonder why they didn't just replace the pitching coach.

24- looked to be turning it around even if we underachieved. No reason to fire anyone.

25- you can't miss the postseason 3 out of 4 years at MSU and head coaching candidates understand that too. Now we're in a position to hire the best candidate possible and didn't get to watch baseball's version of Rick Ray happen.

You nailed it. The problem is he over corrects what the issue the year before was but then neglects what wasn't a problem and you can't do that. So then new problems that were old problems come back.

Todd you're probably talking to the wrong person. I was one of the few who wanted him fired after 22 because you could see this coming down the tracks. Heck you could see it in 21, but it was swept under the rug. This is why I'd be a terrible AD because everyone would be on one year contracts.

Being a CEO coach isn't absolving responsibility from Lemonis at all. In fact it puts more on him because as CEO he is responsible for bringing in elite assistants. He sinks or swims based on their performance.

I see things through the lens of a baseball person who grew up around that industry. Baseball coaches are different. They just are. We wouldn't play Delta State for years because Paul Gregory and Boo Ferris were friends and they didn't want to have to beat each other. You have guys like Dan Heefner who is an elite coach but has strict religious standards that he doesn't bend for. You have guys that stay for years at places they have no chance to win a title at because they're happy there.

If we had handled Lemonis the wrong way we could easily set ourselves back 5-10 years. And we don't have a coaching candidate like a Cohen out there like we did in 2009 where we could tell Polk 17 no we don't want Raffo to bail us out.

The way we handled it gives us the best chance to get back to what we expect to be.

nothing i see from selmon or especially keenum screams we will hire an aggressive personality as a baseball HC. am I wrong?
